[DGA] DGA's new disc, the Torrent.

From the other thread, I posted yesterday;I just got word that it flies more like a Cannon. With the right amount of speed it will flip up and bomb straight. Looks like they will debut it at the Memorial. It will have a DGA proto stamp.

dga has a real solid line up, this disc will be out of my speed range. i wish the would bring back the riptide.

i thought this was about the 'trident'…:thmbup:

DGA version of a Cannon, that sounds DOPE tho!

I threw one tonight

I live in Phoenix and a guy sponsored by DGA (sorry can't remember his name) brought one to our local league. It was a fresh prototype and it was pretty beefy. I threw it along with another guy to try it out. We both can throw 425-450 fairly consistently in the the open using your normal high speed stuff (Boss, Nuke, Cannon, etc.) Neither of us had it turn at all with a flat throw. I had to come over the top of it pretty hard to get it to turn (torque monkey). If I threw it flat it would hold the line then fade pretty hard at the ~350-375 mark. Felt a lot like a fresh Rampage to me. Definitely harder to get it up to speed then most Nukes I have thrown. Not a bad disc but probably not something I would run out and buy either.

Who cares what mold it is. All I know is DGA's plastic is better than Discraft and I am stoked to have something faster than my Hurricane, which I love...and for the simple reason to hopefully get rid of my Nukes because they are inconsistent and unreliable.

I got a chance to throw a couple protos today, and have t say that these things bomb. I threw them in a transitional type plastic, felt kinda champystar. It took me a few throws to get used to the wider rim as I'm a destroyer/hurricane guy, but once I got in a groove, I could ge them to flip up into big S Curve lines. They had really nice glide. I'd put the stability at almost a -2, 2 on the innova scale with a bunch of glide. With some more work, I could easily see myself getting these out 450+ which is just a little farther than my destroyer max.

This thread is gold, Jerry.

These speculations are making me THIRSTY!

to contribute a little in this thread.... speed can vary + or - 1 with rim thickness if you consider how sharp the nose is. blunter noses can be rated slower than sharp noses. Best example is a Trident compared to a XXX. pretty much the same disc except the Trident has an extra spacer in the wing, which makes is slower (less sharp) than the XXX.

This is also why Legacy markets their drivers as speed 14. very sharp.

I'm either really excited for a new DGA disc or I'm trying to get another DGA thread on the first page. Or both.

Torrent

So I threw mine yesterday and they are pretty flippy despite what everyone else said. I know everyone throws differently but I am not terribly powerful. I get 500-550 consistently and found them to be pretty comparable to a Katana. They are very fast and freaking sweet. I hope that if they retool the mold for production they will make it more stable but also find a way to keep the disc as it is now too. Excellent pure distance driver. It's one that I didn't really have any trouble learning how to throw. Very impressed with this one keep 'em coming DGA!!!!

Wait so you can throw 550ft consistently with a Katana or a Torrent? On level ground w/o a tailwind, that's terribly powerful in my book. Wish I could add 100ft w/ 1 disc. Please tell me that's what happened. Man that would be sweet!

I threw a 161g Pro Boss 500ft one time from level ground. It was still 100ft away, but I was level with the basket. I consistently drive around 370-420, depending on how open it is. I can line drive a Katana 350-370 all day (I wouldn't because of all the fade and skip), but I need space to really turn it over and get 400 out of it.

So I guess my question is how much distance did it add? Would it rival your longest driver? Does it require you to turn it out to prevent fade like the +3F/-3T Katana?

"Spacers" are not real. Molds don't work that way.

It took me a minute for the torrent reference. I was trying to relate disc golf w/ porn and was having issues.

got one of these from the st patties if anyone wants it let me know, I'd be happy to part with it at a reasonable price, I like the way legacy feels better. it's new unthrown.
