A group of us will be down in the Huntsville/Birmingham area and was wondering if there is a can't miss course or suggestions on where to play. Also are venomous snakes an issue there?

I know this is a disc golf trip, but if you get the chance, visit the US Space and Rocket Center! They have an actual Saturn V rocket on display, the Apollo 16 Capsule, a fully stacked Space Shuttle and other awesome stuff you will never see anywhere else in the world.

As for courses, University of Alabama Huntsville is on my favorites list. I also enjoyed the Sparkman DGC in Hartselle and the Redstone Arsenal DGC. Indian Creek is supposed to be great, but I didn't get the chance to play it.

If I were to only play one course in Huntsville, it'd be Redstone Arsenal.

It takes a bit of planning, however. The base is closed to the public, but the local club has an arrangement that their members can escort non-members on the course. They are super helpful about it, given enough notice. Post up on their forums in advance and I'm sure you'll find someone willing to meet you out there. The course is well worth the extra effort.

As for Birmingham, I'd second the recommendation for Inverness and/or George Ward(probably in that order).

We are staying in a hotel close to UAH so that may be the 1st we play Friday morning, lots of courses in an area none of us has been.

I was in Huntsville this past spring and wished I would have made time for UAB. I really liked Indian Creek and that I would consider a must play. Great variety of holes and quite challenging. If you hate disc golf then go to Dublin Park. My review of Dublin was far too nice. Bahran Springs is not terribly challenging and I certainly would not call it a "must play" but is a lot of fun for an uber quick round. Could be a good putter only spot. Another not really "must play" is Mastin Lake. A well thought out and just plain old fun course over some hills. Check it out if you have time.
