Short, Fun, Dangerous

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 2, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 DGA baskets that catch well.

Tee signage that gives map and distance.

Available trees used well to create more interesting shot shapes.

Some hills used to create downhill shots.

Old park infrastructure (a bridge, stone walls and ruins of walls, an old building) adds interest to some of the fairways and green areas.

Cons:

Natural tees that were muddy when I played. All holes are very short.

The layout is not good. Course flow is not intuitive and there are several long walks, including walking holes 5 and 9 backwards to get to those tees. (The baskets for hole 4 and 5 and then for 8 and 9 are very close together.) Hole 9 finishes far from hole 1's tee. One hole is designed to throw over a road where cars were frequently driving through. Several baskets are located within 20-30 feet of the roads. There were several groups of walkers using the roads in the park and I had to wait to throw multiple times.

Other Thoughts:

This was a fun course to stop and play quickly on the way through town. It is nice for a small town like Ballinger to have disc golf available.

Beginners will learn some different shot shapes and how to control discs on downhill throws by playing this course. It would be nice if uphill throws were included, along with fewer lines that present danger for cars and other park users.
