BRP Break

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 26, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The Blue Ribbon Pines "Camp" course is a very short putter-only affair with special rules, located literally in the middle of the main BRP layout. It's close to the on-site snack shack. The snack shack is open weekends only, but this course is accessible whenever you're playing the main BRP course.

The special rules are clearly posted at the entrance to the course, and I also uploaded them here in the Links/Files area. Essentially, there are nine "holes" with distances between 30'-50'. Your goal is to ace the hole. You get two tries per hole using two different putters, and score different numbers of points depending on whether your throws go in the basket, hit the cage, or miss entirely. I was only able to manage a score of 12 points (out of a possible 54). I guess I need to work on my putting game!

The course plays on mostly flat terrain, but there are some opportunistic tree trunks present that add challenge to most of the putts. There are also a couple of signed OB areas. I would say that this layout makes you throw a wide variety of putts accurately if you want to score well.

The baskets in play are nice blue painted Chainstars. Or were they Mach 5's? I always mix those two up. They were definitely fine though. Each hole also has a tiny stand-and-throw concrete tee pad, and an accompanying tee sign. The tee signs, for some reason, are mostly filled with a large printout of a musical album cover. However, they do contain a hole number/distance/commentary as well. The distances are in a variety of different outlandish units (millimeters, miles, light-years, etc.), just for fun.

Cons:

When I visited, hole 6 had an extra even shorter basket in play. This was pretty confusing. I actually pulled out my phone and converted the .0137 km distance on the tee sign, to feet so that I could verify which basket to throw at.

Like the rest of BRP, this course is pretty much flat.

You won't be able to throw that speed 14 driver that you just purchased in the pro shop.

Other Thoughts:

This course is "free to play", but it can basically only be accessed if you are also playing the main BRP layout (which costs $8/day). The main layout routes near here 2-3 different times, so I'd recommend playing this "camp" course if you want to take a break midway through your main BRP round and practice your putting (maybe with something from the snack shack in hand!).

I'm not sure why it's called the "Camp" course. I saw no signs of a campground nearby. Maybe people camp near here when there are special events going on? Anyway, as a standalone course this one would be pretty silly, but as is it's a fun and well-executed addition to a disc golf destination.
