Pros:
-Baskets OK (all but first 4 are newer)
-Paver tee pads are OK (sometimes a little slanted)
-Signage OK (DGA peel 'n' stick)
-Interest with a nice stream through the middle, big hill on 1 and 2, woods on 5-9, a little more open on 10-13, over the stream on 14, very open on 15-17 and woods again on 18
Cons:
-Pars on front 9 are overgenerous, back 9 a little punishing
-Hazards with play around a walking path on 8, 14 and 18
-New end at 18 even farther from parking lot (just over 1/3 mile)
-Holes # 5 and 8 play almost at each other
Other Thoughts:
Brewer Creek DGC is located in the heart of Webster City, IA. Recently upgraded to an 18 hole course, the extended course winds around the park and the creek. 1 and 2 go up and down a large hill for the only real elevation. Play jumps the creek for 5 - 13 with water in play on 5, 6, 9 and 13. 14 tees back across the creek with 15-17 playing wide open with a 12' or so fairway mowed for you. 18 plays back toward the start, but even with its 645' length, you still end up at third of mile back to the start. There is definitely a difference between the front and back 9s. The front is generally shorter with Par 4 for every hole. The back has some longer holes with less generous pars. The tee pads are OK, a group of pavers at a decent size, but a few have gotten slanted making a tougher run up, but overall acceptable. The front 9 had the novice I am feel pretty good against par, but the back 9 was rougher on my noodle arm. The hazards around the walking path knock this down a bit for me. While teeing off across the creek on 14 is cool, the path is about 20' off the creek bank on the other side with only a 20' gap or so in the trees, really a blind shot with no easy way to look out for those on the trail. One of the knocks on the previous set-up was the end of 9 over the creek and a long walk back to the start. While you are back on the north side of the creek at the end of 18, it is a bit longer back to start from that basket. Some of the additional holes were enjoyable, some a bit confusing as is ending so far from the start. My round was OK, not worth going a long way out of your way for, but playable if in the area. I might play it again.
