Pros:

This medium-length, technical course is a welcome addition to the Gulf Coast's increasing density of disc golf. It's a great choice for beginners and novices, with little chance of losing a disc, while providing opportunities for obscure shots and birdies from more advanced players.
The land was once Bayou View West, a subdivision consistently flooded by the more furious hurricanes, Katrina being the last straw. The Fed's bought out the neighborhood (with a few exceptions ) and removed everything not natural, then gave it to the city, stipulating that no structures were ever to be built on it.
Jim and Mick built it as an alternate materials/bootleg course in 2012, with much sweat and not a little cash, and in spring of 2017, Gulfport finally reached the 21st century and provided full support.
Tees #1 and 10 start within 30 feet of each other, so you can play your favorite 9 if time is short. The tees are composed of pavers and/or gravel boxed in by garden timbers. There's lots of shade (except #s 5, 16 and chunks of 9, 13, 14) due to the mature oaks, pines, cedars, magnolias and other exotic vegetation from former residential plantings.
You'll find hallway-style drives, fat hyzer hucks with narrow approach windows, a few big-arm tosses, pocket greens, a hanging basket, and a lilac and gardinia jailhouse with a slightly elevated basket on #12.
Once the vegetative bonsaiing is finished and the standard accoutrements are in place, I see this course as an elegant, punchy after-work playground for connoisseurs, with a friendly nod to novices and families.

Cons:

The coming cement tees and signs will add a half point. If they ever come...
Heavy rain can leave a foot or so of water in the ditchy sloughs in the woods and 1-3 inches in the fairways for a few days.
Unfortunately, the no-structures edict from the government means no bathroom. The ditch woods provide enough cover here and there.
Heat, humidity and bugginess in the summer, but that's anywhere east of the Mississippi River.
UPDATE: Finally they have a contract mower doing an excellent job, the last bridges have been installed, soggy walks at #s 3 and 6 are bedded with sand, and the local disc club has been tidying the nooks and crannies too! Sadly, this is offset somewhat by the substandard gravel tees and lack of decent signage.

Other Thoughts:

A dog park and community garden 1 block east, a bar and Quikie Mart 2 blocks north, and every now and then you can hear gunfire from the police range 1/4 mile away. Or from the apartment complex across 34th Ave.
