Pros:
New concrete teepads and MACH-X baskets installed in the last 2 years. Teepads are wide at the front allowing a variety of angles.
New signage, multiple pin positions on most holes. Baskets are moved periodically. Course map and printed maps available near Tee #1. Lost disc return box is maintained by local clubs.
Parks department has recently cleared out a lot of ground cover on many holes, opening the fairways to more lines.
Benches near most teepads, restrooms and facilities available throughout the park. Cart-friendly overall, with a couple of exceptions (see cons).
Good mix of open and technical shots. The longer of the two courses at Burns.
Another shorter, more technical course (Burns Red) on the same property.
Cons:
Holes 5-8 run alongside a freeway, which can be very noisy.
Highly trafficked multi-use park, so watch out for non-golfers in or near the fairways.
A couple of the creeks that run through the course could use better walkways. If you use a cart, this could be an issue.
Other Thoughts:
One of the oldest courses in Little Rock (and perhaps the state) has recently got a much needed update, thanks to the NLR parks department and local disc golf lovers. If you haven't played here in the last couple of years, you'll be amazed at the difference. New pads, new baskets, cleared-out fairways, and excellent signage. The Parks and Rec department has really thrown its support behind their disc golf infrastructure, and it shows.
This is a course that requires every shot in your bag--long shots, forehands, big hyzers and technical approaches. Good mix of woods and open, with fair fairways and some demanding lines. Well worth a stop if you're passing through, or if you just haven't played it in a while.
