Pros:
(2.381 Rating) A petite and scenic church course.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - I wasn't expecting this church course to look this good. The run of holes (3) thru (8), are all appealing heavily wooded tunnel shots. Hole (4) IMO is the bread winner. This hole is a valley shot with a well manicured line. Overall I scored the course roughly 75 percentile among all courses I've played.
- FUN FACTOR - A scenic short easy going birdie fest. Neighborhood locals and church members are going to have lots of putters inked with signatures. Players are going to ace this course two or three times more often compared to a normal course. There is going to be some searching however. Discs pinging off trees in the wrong direction will likely find some thicket. Still though, the holes are short enough that tracking an errant disc will be achievable in most instances.
- RECREATIONAL LEVEL FRIENDLY - The course appears to be geared to recreational players with about an 850 player rating. The longest tee shot is 320ish. The technical holes are all under 220 feet. It was a birdie fiesta for this Intermediate level player. Even my out-of-form card mate GMcAtee broke par.
- QUICK PLAY - My twosome had this wrapped up in 40 minutes. First time solos should be able to tackle it in 30 minutes.
- MAINTENANCE - The heavily wooded holes were all maintained to an appropriate level on my appearance.
- EXTRA BASKETS - I saw 3 additional baskets on the property. One looked like a practice basket or an informal tenth hole. Also an extra basket on (2) and (9).
Cons:
Mostly just preferential cons.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE -This is not the course to set-up shop and practice day in and day out in hopes develop the skills to land a sponsorship. An Advanced player could probably throw 7 down on first attempt and hit 9 down eventually. No power is required here. Although holes (3) thru (8) are heavily wooded and can be punishing with a horrid ricochet, they are so short that many higher skilled players will split the 8 foot wide gaps and run it clean to the basket 85 percent of the time.
- FORGIVENESS - Shots that are re-directed well off fairway will be a pain to retrieve. Beginners may not like this course.
- TEES - Not awful, but the turf surfaces are below average. The tees are also on the smallish side. Several felt uneven. Not the end of the world as the course is very short.
- CHAINS - Not top of the line DISCatchers, being that they are the Sport version.
- CHARACTER - The basics, as noted above, are so so. As for extras, not much. No extra tees, only 2 multiple basket holes, only a couple benches. The signage and navigation is adequate, see other thoughts.
- UNIQUENESS - Despite the beauty in many of the lines. Not too much variety here. The 6 holes in the woods all had a similar feel. No bomber shots. All pars 3s and water features are limited to just one creek crossing in front of (1s) tee pad.
- TERRAIN - This does not look like an appropriate course for those with knee issues. Bringing a Zuca is very much doable, but inferior carts may struggle. I don't take off points for this.
Other Thoughts:
One of the better church courses I've ever played. By my count, I've now played 18 church courses and this would be my second highest scored one after Austin Ridge Bible Church. Chamblee IMO, has the right mixture of scenery and fun that will appeal to many Novice and Rec players within a 5 to 10 mile radius. By no means is this a destination course for the Atlanta area, but for those looking to play a quick warm-up round before a more grueling beast, Chamblee may fit the bill.
- SIGNAGE AND NAVIGATION - Adequate. New tee signs have been installed for the re-design and the signs have next tee direction. No course map posted as of this review, but most transitions are intuitive. The first exceptions is (2) to (3), head left not right. The second exception is (8) to (9) where the tee is out in the open behind a building. The course would benefit by adding a few navigation cues on the pathways.
