+ All tee signs are big, illustrative and informative at both tees.
+ The practice basket has distance bricks in the ground around it, and there is a good information board right next to hole1.
+ The baskets are numbered. Many have flags on top for visibility. Hanging from them are next tee arrows.
+ Colored arrows along the way point to specific tee areas.
+ A majority of the course plays through a hilly forest. Things get particularly adventurous after hole10. However...

- ...Some of the fairways and walkways are particularly treacherous. Exposed roots, loose rocks, tree stumps and some insane elevation changes present real problems for any player. It starts getting noticeably dangerous at around hole8.
- All of the tees are dirt, loose stones or gravel.
- Was there a lost disc box? I don't remember.

My favorite hole here to look at and play is hole12. It pretty much stole the show to my mind. It looked like something out of a fairy tale. Beams of sunlight filtered down through the treetops. On the teepad I was surrounded by paralyzing silence in the middle of the woods atop a huge hillside. Most of the fairway hid behind massive tree trunks, and missing the fairway meant either a nasty deflection and/or a tragic rollaway. My least favorite hole is hole10. It serves as an overlong wide-open connector hole. Nothing more.

Chester Park or "Rollaway Park," as I affectionately call it, feels like a hidden getaway spot that only a select few players will ever get to experience. Its elevation, tree density and distances have such variable proportions from hole to hole that I couldn't help becoming enamored. The player can easily see the elevation and forest from the very beginning at the bottom of hole1, but they aren't quite ready for it until they're in the thick of things.

Take hole7, for one example. It starts out harmlessly enough with a direct and open drive but then suckerpunches the player with a dramatic uphill approach and putt with plenty of trees in the way.

The challenge here definitely boils down to smart tactical play. Throw recklessly, and you're looking at a major headache. On more than one occasion the player is faced with quite a daunting combination of sturdy pines and nasty hillisides. (Hole11 actually puts a freaking mountainside in your way!) Thankfully, the abbreviated distances were the right call to compensate for that tough landscape.

Actually, let's talk a bit more about that rugged landscape. I suppose it's normal fare for course in New England, but I don't see this kind of stuff in New Jersey at all. This might be nothing surprising to those who live in the area. Still, you should take it slow as you walk on some of these holes. The walk from hole11 to 12 is a climb. Seriously. You will need to use your hands for balance and to grab hold of trees. This isn't a joke. Be careful there.

It's weird how the terrain can be a certain course's biggest draw as well as its biggest drawback. But Chester uses it all to great effect. The power-throwers may find the tree puzzles tedious. The newbie will almost certainly get frustrated with the trees and hills even from the short tees. The safety issues alone are reason enough for some players to stay away. However, if you aren't afraid of a little bit of risk in your disc golf and feel confident enough in your skills, then I strongly recommend Rollaway Park for you!

Challenging holes on the back 9! Great signage and layout. Very easy to navigate!

*update 5/20 Back 9 is complete including several longer holes and par 4's a nice contrast to front nine which is classic New England par 3s. Fun, technical, mostly wooded course but with a mix; some very tight lines on 3, 8 , 9 and 12, more open lanes on 4 and 5, throwing from open into woods on 2, 7 and 11, a low tunnel shot into the open on 6, and a couple open shots to let her rip on 1 and 10. 6 new holes being added spring /summer 2019. This course was newly established in 2016 and has already worn in nicely with plenty of "course maintenance". Free. Open year round. Practice basket to the right of kiosk/first tee.

Nice gravel/surpak tee pads (2 on almost all holes), good signage, nice baskets and good course flow. Mostly ok for carts, but with a couple of tricky spots. Well maintained with ongoing improvements. Sweet chainsaw carved benches throughout! Carry in/carry out, very clean course, please help keep it that way, thanks! Nearby toilets/porta potties at pool and ball field (in season).

May not test the biggest arms (*see update above) but you'll need most of your bag and a variety of shots to score well.
Not necessarily a con but with a few blind baskets you may want a spotter if you're new to the course.
Potential for lost discs with narrow lines, blind shots and leaf litter/undergrowth at times.

Check it out if you're in the area or playing nearby Magic or even Otter Brook. This is an undiscovered gem of a course, it's free and very little traffic!

The Course features Green and Black Tees on each hole, with Gravel Tees. The course is both fun and challenging with a few open holes, and other narrow holes which take you through the woods.

There's really no Cons except hopefully they get new permanent signage soon, as a few of the signs are suffering from water damage.

A lot of intention went into this course. The design is great and its really amazing how much variety and interesting play they got on a course that does not have 800 ft holes. It left me wanting more after 9, so I'm stoked to hear a back 9 are in the works. Hope there are a couple bombers to compliment the well crafted woods play.

A few trees could come down on a couple holes. The tee signs showed a few lanes that were really luck dependent. The specific holes i'm thinking of would still be cool, but the gaps need to be widened to be actual lanes.

Surprisingly Challenging, Tunnels & Turns, Well Maintained, multiple tee boxes both work to separate hard core throwers from lesser experienced but also awesome for doubling threw to play 18.

Can't think of any cons there. It's a newer course that they keep improving.

I enjoy the way the B (green) tee pads parallel the A (blacks) tees so I have the option of playing agressive to beat my scores & remain along side my kids if they want a calmer approach. Nice year round hike without too much climbing. All around great experience

The Chester course is a classic, well maintained and well-laid out New England-style course. At 5,900'+, the challenging, mostly wooded holes are not super-long, but they do require a balanced combination of both finesse and power. Some fairway lines are pretty tight, others are more open. Undulating terrain adds an element of strategy to shot placements, as side hill lies and baskets can often lead to roll-aways and birdie-to-bogie scores in a flash.

The course has a nicely designed information kiosk, practice basket and excellent signage and walking paths between holes. Two framed, gravel tee boxes per hole dot the Front 9 (Pro-Black and Novice-Green) with a few ALT tee boxes as well. The Back 9 features a variety of challenging holes as the course climbs to the relatively flat summit of the pinnacle. Most of the B9 fairways wind through tall pine tree stands, before culminating on hole #18 and a sharp downhill approach to a basket located just uphill of the recently restored picnic pavilion. There are a handful of unique, hand carved wooden benches scattered throughout the course - a nice feature.

Any disc golfer will enjoy and appreciate the beauty, flow, challenge and shot shaping required to score on this course. Definitely worth checking out.

This is a really enjoyable course to play in the heart of Chester, VT.

Another beautiful 9 hole. It is classic New England with elevation and tight lanes that reward finesse and planning over power. Nice tees.

Its a new course and could use another cut in places and more pole sawing. But I am sure that will come.

Fun destination course as part of a day trip. Make part of VT disc golf trip. Make sure to hit up the Pizza Stone while in town!!
