Nice Change up from TC Jester 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 26, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

The one major pro for this course is that it adds six true wooded and elevation holes, something that is hard to find in Houston. I especially enjoyed hole 3 as it had about a 25' elevation drop on a really short hole.
I also enjoyed hole 1 as it was another bayou crossing, similar to how hole 4 at the TC Jester course is its signature hole.
Navigation was not too tricky. Using the map on DGCR proved to be very helpful. There are small plastic poles that are stuck in the ground for tee signs.
The nine holes play to four baskets, three of which are homemade. I had only played on one homemade basket (Erickson-Payne Course) and it is garbage. The three homemade baskets at this course are not bad, obviously not as good as the Chainstars found on TC Jester course, but you do not really need to worry about putting. They remind me a lot of Lightning baskets.

Cons:

The course is still really rough at points. The first and last few holes that play along the bayou are not as well manicured as the other side of the park, but that is to be expected as it is a part of the park that is not used at all.
The course is meant to be played after hole 16 on TC Jester, but it just doesn't flow too well. You have to walk the entire length of the 17th fairway to get to the first tee on Coyote Crossing and then once you throw your disc, you have a pretty treacherous walk up and across the train tracks to get to the rest of the course. Then once you get done playing, it is another long walk back to the 17th tee. There is also no easy way to just play these nine holes by itself as there is no nearby parking.

Other Thoughts:

These holes were fun to play, and a cool addition to a course that is very open and long. It brings tight and technical to a city that lacks it. It reminds me of Mason Park in some ways.
If I come to play TC Jester, I would definitely not play this course each time, as it is a bit out of the way. Still, by playing this, you can get 30 unique holes in. I recommend at least trying this side of the bayou out.
