Don't say you weren't warned

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 7, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

Dragonfly in and of itself is an enjoyable short, ace-run course. Due to its location, however, some people may be avoiding this course.
- Safest course I can remember playing. I could have left all my windows down, left my wallet and keys in the driver seat, and not been worried. That happens when the course is built directly behind the town's police department.
- Parking lot was half full of police cars. Three officers were sitting in their cars. If there's a reason you don't want coming into close contact with officers, or don't want them running your plates, this may be a no-go for you.
- As for the course itself, it has a pleasant flow. Other than #2 & 6's fairways essentially playing right at each other, the holes are isolated from each other, despite having almost no space here.
- There's nothing else occupying this land. So, you shouldn't have to worry about interference.
- #8 is a fun hole. 220 foot, multi-laned tee shot with a fence serving as your backdrop. Be as aggressive as you want. Throw tee shots on lines making a run for the basket. The fence will knock them down. Now, if you're throwing high, then have fun searching in the woods. Otherwise, this hole encourages you to be aggressive.
- #4, 5, & 7 are nice doglegs of varying degrees. #3 is a sharp, mando dogleg that I didn't care for.
- It's a nice piece of land. #4's basket and the trail leading towards #5's tee are alongside a 4-lane road. As soon as you step away from this area, it gets quiet almost immediately.
- Great course for practice, beginners, and kids. I met two guys on the course. Both were throwing lots of discs for practice. Great use of this layout.
- I like the dragonfly logo on each sign. If anyone can clue me into Morrisville's connection to the dragonfly, maybe the name will make more sense.

Cons:

Being behind the police station will be a strong disqualifier for some people right off the bat. If that's you, so be it.
- Course does have a couple of dud, throw away holes. #1 & 9 are way too simple. Teeing off on #1, I thought 9 or 10 under might be a reality if all holes were like this. Thankfully, the course does have more challenge and variety after that.
- #3 feels like you're playing halfway into someone's front yard.
- Not a challenging layout. Again, that means this isn't a course for you. Go play Diavolo or anywhere else instead.
- No amenities on the course.
- Because of its locale, I'd suspect open containers and other things aren't a good idea. Just think of this as a church or school course, and you'll be fine.

Other Thoughts:

Dragonfly is fun for a quick, ego-boosting round. 15 minutes and enough birdies & ace runs to feel good about myself.
- Great course for attempting to bag aces. Good ace race layout.
- Very clean locale. You can probably thank the police station for that. Take the police station away, and this place could easily be trashed. Having playing Bethesda Park in Durham earlier in the day, and I can see how this layout could easily turn into that one. And, not in a good way.
- #2 & 6 are perfectly fine short holes. Throw your putters and make a run for the basket.
- Longest hole is 255 feet. If you have a disc to cover that distance, you can play the course with only a couple discs if needed.
- If the course is kept maintained, it'll serves a useful purpose. If not, it'll quickly be forgotten.
- Great course to introduce new players to the game. In that sense, it serves a strong purpose for the local disc golf scene.
