Pros:

Well I know why this course is called cutthroat!!!
-not really any short holes on this course bring your Max distance drivers. It's a good place for people who like to air shots out.
- there's some really well designed holes on this course with par 4s and par 5s
Some elevation change plays in nicely on hole 5/17
-hole 10 is my favorite hole a tight shot through the woods with ob road down left side the only wooded hole on this course
The baskets and tee pads are nice
The course loops well from the start to bring you back to the parking lot
There's some variety and some really clever hole designs

Cons:

I don't know what it is...but this course is just kinda boring. Mostly open shots that will test your distance.
This is a great course but I don't see many players wanting to play here when the rest of Farragut offers a lot, and more variety. Rounds can be pretty long and grueling.

Other Thoughts:

I think this is a great tourney course for advanced and open but outside of tournaments I wouldn't imagine this gets picked to play very often.

Short Throwers Need Not Apply 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 22, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice large concrete tee pads

Flow is good, but there is some walking between holes

Much more open than the other Farragut courses, but still has a good number of trees in play

10 par 4's and one par 5 that almost all require a well-placed tee shot for a good chance at birdie

Some elevation in play

Good mix of L to R, R to L, and straight tee shots

Excellent challenge for 400'+ throwers

Cons:

A few of the par 3's are very lackluster

Grass outside of fairways does not get mowed, it can be tall and thick in wet years

Several laminated tee signs missing at time of review

Some footing and run up issues on the uneven ground, but mowing and play is making it better each year

No benches

Other Thoughts:

If you can't throw at least 300' you would be better off on any of the other courses onsite. I max out around 340' these days and only 5 or 6 of the holes on Cutthroat are decent birdie chances for me.

Tree trimming of the bottom 4'-6' of the evergreens in play during the past year has helped the course play much better.

Plan on giving your distance drivers a workout, easily one of the longest courses I've played.

The Hole Info tab shows distances for blue tees, the gold tees are the only tees in play currently.

I was surprised to see six cars parked at the Cutthroat parking area on the day I last played it. It is starting to see more play.

Playing Cutthroat is physically like playing two rounds on an average course, plan accordingly if you have multiple rounds at Farragut in mind.

Shelley Long. Howie Long. Governor Huey Long! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 24, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Basketball coaches and scouts always use the term length to describe their athletes who are tall with amazing wing spans. The term for Farragut's newest 18, Cutthroat, has length, as in not just length, but mind numbingly lengthy. Cutthroat is described as a championship level course with it's almost 11,000'. This course is much different than Farragut's other four courses which are all played in mostly wooded surroundings. This is prairie golf with some scattered trees designed with the Pro player in mind. If you don't have a 350' to 400' arm, you want to avoid this course. And that's what the locals are doing, in droves.

Beside it's length, Cutthroat has nice large concrete tee pads although they even had to be extended in some places. The maps are currently Xerox copies of the terrain with the tee and basket added on. There is one bench where the pads for # 5 and # 17 intersect. I have no doubt that signs and benches will added soon.

There is some elevation to play with. # 17 is the most wide open downhill at 460' while others all seem to have a smallish gap to hit. With only four holes playing under 400', the course is wearing. Add the wind that was blowing consistently and you can have a tough day at the office.

Signature hole? Because I'm really not fond of long, long prairie holes, I think I'll go with # 13. Although it's a hole that me and my weeny arm normally hate, it being 470' blind, twisting uphill, on Cutthroat it seemed fair.

Cons:

I believe that some of these CONS will be corrected and probably very soon.

Only one bench on the course.

Current signs are photocopied aerial photos with the pad and basket added.

These CONS might be a little more difficult to fix.

Much of the course is prairie grass with only the fairways mowed.

Primarily because of it's length and openness, most of the disc golfing world will pass on Cutthroat.

Open prairie can be windy.

Final 400' of the 1023' Hole 5 is wide open and coma inducing.

Other Thoughts:

The target group for this course is so small, I don't know how anyone can justify spending this much money and energy on building a course for maybe 2% of all disc golfers. It was explained to me the Pro players feel they lose much of their advantage playing on "regular sized courses " because their distance advantage is negated and therefore ends up lowering their ratings

While the parking lot for the other four Farragut courses was filled with cars on a lovely August day, there was just one other group playing Cutthroat the entire time I was here. I'm fairly certain that will be the norm here. Except for the occasional tournament, I don't envision this course ever receiving a lot of play. Eventually I expect to see some Am type tees add to encourage more players to play here.

Pros:

Cutthroat is the newest and longest course at Farragut State Park, it is a long almost 11,000 ft par 67. This is not a course I would recommend for beginners, but if you are a more experienced disc golfer it is a great course that is unlike any other course in the area.

-Very well laid out course, excellent course flow.
-Nice, big concrete tee pads.
-Variety of different tee shots.
-Requires you to plan the landing zone of your tee shot to set yourself up for another throw.
-A lot of distance, not very many other courses like this in the area.
-Typically the least played course in the park, not very much traffic.
-Pars are very fair, a lot of the par 4's are definitely 3-able with two good shots.
-Most open course on the property, but still has a good mix of wooded and open holes.

Cons:

-Obviously not as complete as other courses on the property.
-Although there are tee signs on every hole they are basically just laminated images of google maps from overhead, not too big of an issue but just shows the in-completion in comparison to the other courses.
-No benches (not a huge issue to me but if you play with a big group or have a hard time walking on such a long course it may be a factor)
-Ground isn't the most level to walk on
-Tall grass in rough can make it difficult to find your discs, but I have played courses where it is much worse.
-I would not suggest this course to anybody who cannot consistently throw 350+ feet.

Other Thoughts:

Previous reviewers had mentioned that the course did not flow, and I did not see that at all. There are arrows on every basket pointing to the next basket, and although there are a couple long walks (4-5, 9-10) there are trails that are very easy to find, I had a map downloaded on my phone and didn't have to use it once. This course is a great addition to the courses at Farragut, but again I would not suggest playing this course if you do not want to be throwing up to 400 feet consistently.

BIG Drive Big Drive Big Drive putt 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 28, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Open meadows with groves of pine tress. Big driver course. Concrete tee pads. Innova baskets. Mowed fairways. Mowed paths between basket and next holes. This isn't a city park course.

Cons:

Long. Average hole length is over 500 ft, with a long 1155ft on hole 5. Don't play this course after AWOL. LOL. Ground is fairly lumpy in fairway. Your ankles will get as much of a workout as your arm.

Other Thoughts:

It's a huge course. Can get a little monotonous but it's different than our usual shorter courses back home. If you're at Farragut, and an avid disc golfer, give it a try.
