Great open and big course. Well maintained. Has something for everyone and the tonal targets are nicely painted. A lot of work has gone into this course.

You have to be careful with some holes as you might end up looking for your disc a while.

Be careful to make sure you have a good aim otherwise you might loose a disc or two. Spoke to the owner who is very friendly. Please respect the rules as it is private land.

Different types of shots (long open, wooded, precise) needed. Big area. Nice and (mostly) helpful signs.

Course layout changed (holes 8-10 and around #12) compare to the course map I downloaded. So I spent a lot of time searching for tees or pins (and discs as well since I played alone). Partly overgrown.

For a privately made course this is very good.

Long, fun Tonal course near Courtenay, BC. On private land that is being redeveloped slowly. New course just re-installed 1/11/11. Print off map if you want to not get lost. Nasty on a windy day. Throw hard or go home. Watch your disc closely, use the right colour for conditions. Plays fun.

Tee markers are bright blue, carpet for the pads themselves, work in progress. Follow map and blue tape to next tee off, signage should be in by March 2012. Pink surveyor's tape to indicate line to target area. Keep on the fairways or have long looks to find disc in deep grass.

It's a bush course with long beautiful views of the snowy mountains. River swimming near by. Caretaker accros road. Pack out all Litter.
Watch for wildlife - Bears mostly in Spring early Summer.

There is no course.

The course no longer exists. There is a new development being put in. It would have been nice for locals to mention this before I made a road trip to play it.

UPDATE
I've played the course since it has been re-instated and it plays well. Good variety of distances, shot selection, and tight vs open fairways. It can be fairly easy to lose a disc in the long grass or in the brush on many holes. Some teepads are a bit rough, but are not so bad that you risk injury. Hole distances are typically much shorter than indicated (I'm pretty sure I can't throw 500ft). If this course was in a manicured park it would get a much higher rating. The downsides of this course have very to do with the layout; however, nicer teeboxes and trimmed fairways would go a long way at this course.

This course has a great variety of types of hole, from a few fairly open 250' aceable par 3s up to the monster 690' par 5 tunnel at 14. Uphill holes, downhill, wooded, open, tight fairways lined with woods, this course has a lot of different types of play. Each T area has a small had made map showing the direction to the tonal, which is a good thing because they aren't all easily seen from the T (starting right with #1).

The woods are a great place to lose a disc so you might want to keep to very controlled shots until you get the hang of the course. As of late spring the grass is getting pretty long so keep an eye on your drives or you'll spend a fair bit of time looking for them. There have been bears in the area, but as the warning states, a bear bell and a partner or two should be all you need. It's also a bit hard to find your way around the first time you play here, so it might be a good idea to contact one of the many friendly local players to guide you around. T areas are really just gravel patches, could use concrete T areas. You might have to hunt a bit to find #1, but if you go straight ahead past the practice tonal, you will get right to it.

If this were in mowed park land or somewhere with higher traffic to keep the growth down a bit, this course would get a higher rating. It has some really great holes and an excellent variety of hole types. Compared to Bowen Park in Nanaimo, Fir Meadows has some much more interesting holes but far worse grooming and much more chance of lost discs. I'd still prefer Fir Meadows - much more challenging. The huge fields of daisies at this time of year is an added bonus. The course makes excellent use of the property and really creates a very fun course - with the downside being the high grass in the summers and the chance of hunting for discs if you shank them into the thicker bush.
