Disc Golf... Golf... and Planes!

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 12, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Unique course location and colorful baskets.
Manageable pars.
With hazards and golf greens as OB, it makes you think extra about shot placement more so than a normal round of disc golf, IMO.
Disc golf topography mixed with traditional golf topography.
Has port-a-potty's along the course.
Features a clubhouse.

Cons:

Pay to Play ($7-8 for a round/day pass)
Golf traffic
One "wooded hole" on the course.
Mainly neglected by the clubhouse.
Long open shots, not a LOT of variety.
No longer able to rent golf carts.
The course will be going away in 2024 :(
(MIGHT be open for the winter season)

Other Thoughts:

The Fort Snelling (disc) Golf Course is located right next to the Minneapolis Airport. (You can take a flight out of town after a tumultuous round :p)

The course adds unique views and atmosphere to your round of golf. Planes land and take off in the distance. We were told that in the past golf carts were rentable, but that has shifted to golfers only (however, when we went, none of the golfers were renting the carts *shrugs*).

You will encounter hills, bunkers as hazards, and a lot of golfers (dependent on time of day, year, etc). The layout of both courses follows each other, making avoiding each other nearly impossible however, be respectful of one another and remember that we're all humans exploring and enjoying recreation in the outdoors. My group was fortunate to encounter nothing but nice and inquisitive golfers on our one and only visit to The Fort.

In closing, I rated this course a 4-4.5 because the course's innate beauty and uniqueness, and our pleasant experience. Rumors in the Twin Cities community have said the course will be going away in the coming year. Enjoy it while you can.
