Been meaning to find out the story on this course at the Alum Creek campgrounds for a few years, and finally made the trip up to find there really are at least six nice DisCatchers out there, with maintained fairways to throw. Despite having no tees, signage, or maps available, I was easily able to find the intended (I think) flight paths for these six, plus spotted a seventh basket in the woods by the parking area. I drew up a map of how I played it, and estimated the hole distances (both, see), and took pics as I went.

As drawn, the holes include two beginning holes that shape left to right, the first having a large open space, and the second needing some line shaping through moderate woods over a drainage creek. The third bombs about 340 feet further out, to a basket position tucked just behind the pine at the end of the clearing. Then I crossed a nice wooden footbridge (another Eagle Scout project) and threw a 240 foot fade (rhbh) to a basket hidden behind a pair of pines, walked forward to the tight piney gap short hole 5, and finished with a pretty, longer fade into a guarded green about 350 feet from the logical teeing area. In all, a pretty decent mix of shots in the fields just past the campground office.

The maintenance of fairways here was unexpectedly decent (mown, with some typical winter branch debris here and there). Ought to look pretty in the spring and summer months. The campground clearly has had an addition of a putt-putt area to the right of the dg fairways, and there are playgrounds to the south, and closer to the camper area. You do get a view of the lake through the woods at the far end of the course.

Now the down side: with little apparent play, the course once had concrete slabs (or were they brought here, 'used', to be installed?) which have been stacked to the right of the gravel space for years. No signage, an office closed in the winter (which may have once had maps?), and no clear indication of how to play the other three holes, the course feels 'unfinished'. You have to guess where to throw from, or safari your own way around once you spot the baskets. The seventh basket I found was in the bowl of woods just south of the middle of the parking lot, in the middle of some fairly dense woods and undergrowth. From where I looked, I couldn't see a defined fairway, and couldn't find the other two baskets.

There is some elevation potential in the woods, but the field shots are generally flat.

On the part of the course that is maintained, you really need to keep it in the fairway. Even in the dead of winter, the rough stands over four feet high, riddled with thorny plants. You can spot an errant disc this time of year, but it is seldom pleasant to get in and get it, much less throw from in there.

The course actually is kind of a fun layout for the six baskets I found playable. Hope someone involved with the course gives me a pm, and I'll help update the map on here to the intended design.

Reviewer Background as of this writing: 4.5 yrs experience at age 54, not a big gun, and not an impressive rating (Rec to Int skills), but enjoy having played over 250 courses and hopefully shared helpful info about those experiences.

Some interesting holes, and close to home.

As others have stated, this is a work-in-progress. Holes 7 and 8 are deep in the woods without clear throwing lanes. We never found hole 9, even with the map from the camping office.

Also, there are many sections of the fairways that are very rutted. Easy to twist an ankle.

We saw what appeared to be pre-formed concrete tee pads stacked near hole 1, so maybe there will be some nice improvements there.
