Pros:

Gateway Dgc is on site of the school. It Has 9 innova discatchers with the number on top of each basket. Has one decent length shot using the soccer field, to give you practice with some drivers. Overall a good place to practice some putting and some mid/drives on the open field....

Cons:

This isn't really a course, as there are no tee pads or signs of any sort. I assume most just go basket to basket....which actually makes for some interesting lines and shots. On a busy school day or during activities it would be unplayable. It goes right through or around the tennis court/track and school itself in areas almost. If playing all track and pavement on it is actually quite fun going basket to basket...but it's still not really a course more just a practice area. Also the Peking lot was closed, and if this is the case you can get a parking ticket for parking infront of the parking entrance

Other Thoughts:

There's no way or enough space here to make a true course and the track takes up most the area and it's really crammed with 9 baskets. However like I said if no school is in or you have it to yourself it's a great place to practice some shots and putts

What? No Gateway Titan Baskets! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 29, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Gateway Middle School in Mill Creek promotes Innoava Discatcher Baskets. This should have been a natural marketing tool for Gateway Baskets!

The little 6 hole course plays along the running track beside the gym for it's first three holes, then doubles back towards the covered play area and then # 6 finishes right next to the tennis courts.

The first tee pad is painted on the concrete right beside the first gym door which faces the track. There is a white arrow pointing the way. Note: When you play # 1, before teeing off, take a close look down behind you and you'll faintly see the # 4 marking which throws in the opposite direction.

The first hole is probably a 140' straight ahead throw to a basket tucked in between 5 small trees. The track is just a few feet to the right and the gym wall is just about 20 feet to the left. # 2 tee marking is up near the gym wall. The basket is about 125' straight ahead set just beyond the track. The # 3 tee pad is marked in the grass just feet from the # 2 basket. The # 3 basket is straight ahead up a small hill, maybe 160 feet.

The # 4 pad uses the same small concrete pad as # 1. The # 4 basket is set almost straight ahead near the tennis courts around 250 feet. The easier shot here is a simple little hyser which throws over the upper concrete play area and some picnic tables. #4 tee pad is apparently at the bottom of the sidewalk ramp leading up to the covered area. I couldn't see any markings here and just teed off from a worn grassy area right beside it. The # 5 basket is just up the small hillside approximately 140 feet. Then the # 6 tee pad is clearly marked on the concrete area right next to the ballfield fence. This short little ACE run is maybe 120 feet with a tree obstructing your throw.

Cons:

There are a couple of safety concerns.

First of all, when teeing off on # 1, you're firing your disc by two sets of gym doors which lead down to the track area. It would pretty easy for some middle schooler to come busting out one of the doors and get tattooed by someone's tee shot. # 3 plays partly over a parking lot which could be a problem of sorts. To get back to the # 4 tee pad, I guess you would have to walk right up the # 1 fairway UNLESS students were allowed to cut through the gym. And then the easiest route to the # 4 basket would have your throwing over the concrete area, complete with picnic tables, as well as the small fence.

You wouldn't think there would be any chance of losing a disc here UNLESS you've taught middle school PE ( as I did for four of the longest years of my life). It seems impossible but I could see a student throwing up on the roof of the gym on # 1 or over the fence on # 2.

Other Thoughts:

I have to assume that the course was installed for PE classes or maybe some kind of intramural activity. For that target audience, I think this course is perfectly suitable. It has a couple of safety issues but I think the overall length and challenge is appropriate for the typical gym class middle school student.

Disc golfers in the area won't find much challenge or curb appeal here. Although somehow, Washington State's three biggest course whores managed to be the first three to play and review it.

Middle School Madness 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

When you drive into the school and park, walk away from the road you drove in on, past the covered basketball court and walk up along side the building on the left and you'll find the small white sign that says tee one. Quick note regarding the tee pad for hole four; it's the same as the tee for hole one with a faint outline telling you so but easy to miss JR (the previous reviewer) did, now you know. Throwing off of the first tee aim for the basket on the left of the two in sight, it's the one under the trees. The rest of the course is self explanatory both for navigation and for achieving birdies.

This is a fun course for safari and even has a large grass field if you get bored and want to (and have the arm for it) throw goal post to goal post on the shared activity (football) field. You can turn short holes into long holes, etc. Great for a middle school and some wham-o type frisbees but leave the sharp stuff at home.

Although the layout is strange and there wasn't much to work with (more on this in the cons section below) the few trees and terrain changes (tiny hills/valleys) were used fairly well. The holes here make you think a little more beyond "throw it in this open field to the basket" like so many 'pitch n putt' style courses do.

Cons:

It's short so it's obviously not a champion level course and not challenging even with SuperClass discs. The flow is wonky and the two worst holes on the course (two and three) take you farther from the rest of the course for no purpose other than to meet a multiple of three to get us to a magical number of six.

On hole one a bad skip or just a disc that lost steam and headed into a hyzer dive could break the windows on the doors to the left of hole one; not sure if whomever designed it knows that but it's done now, moving on.

Hole two you are throwing from a raised tee with a slightly low ceiling to a basket near a fence and the other side grown over with sticker bushes. I did not see a gate to the other side so you're jumping a fence into stickers to get your plastic back! Hole three is right in front of the building and could be dangerous.

If you want to beat in your discs there is tons of concrete, and buildings to slam them up against but if you're not playing with premium plastic get ready to break out the tweezers and sandpaper.

Gotta love the number plate facing the wrong direction!

If anything else is going on like school or an event near the track/field good luck on playing the course!!!

Just not enough obstacles and not much to work with here.

Other Thoughts:

It seem there are lots of these courses that pop up every now and again that you just hear of but have been there for years judging on the state of the course or baskets. Some of these courses may never have seen a disc golfer playing them and many are yet to be discovered. Funny that schools and churches put in these courses without contacting someone who knows a thing about course design or the game in general. I'm assuming most of these "designers" have either never played and only heard about it or saw it played once or played it once themselves. Don't get me wrong I'm glad they think of out sport instead of something else it just seems strange to me.

Gateway Guardians DGC 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 18, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Gateway Guardians DGC is located on the outskirts of Everett near the Snohomish/Mill Creek border. The six hole practice course was installed on a middle school campus as part of their physical education program. Split into two sections along the intermural fields, the first three holes play along the gym and far end of the track while the last three holes have you throwing back across the main field toward the tennis courts. A few trees come into play on holes one, three, and six while natural obstacles like buildings and sport fences are prevalent throughout. Holes are all within the 200' range or less with the exception of hole four (I couldn't find the tee so I chose to throw across the soccer field on the cement pad just behind the goal near basket two).

Note: Tee pad one is located next to the gym on the cement walkway. Each indicator has a faint white line with a number and arrow pointing toward the basket. Each basket is numbered.

Cons:

-Closed during school hours (understandably)
-Possibility of lost disc over fence behind basket 2
-Cement scuffing up discs

Other Thoughts:

Gateway Guardians DGC was installed with the intention to help introduce students to the game of disc golf. The course may be short and simple but it helps new players build confidence. The course utilizes space well and incorporates elevation throughout.
I took my five year old out here to throw due to its remoteness and it being a practice course. There was no foot traffic there whatsoever so my son could spend time learning the game and I could throw a few ace runs and play some safari. The course was fun and well worth my time but I also knew ahead of time what to expect from a course like this. This course is for students, locals who want to practice, and course baggers like myself.
