Pros:

This course is built through three types of areas. Road, power line right-of-way, and thick woods. So you get a variety of shots from fairly open to very tight.

Hole lengths vary from from very short 129' out to 515'. But overall this is a short course, averaging just 230' from the red tees and 257' from the blues. There isn't much elevation on the course and I didn't feel like I had to shape my drives much. But in the woods you'll have to hit some narrow gaps!

The first three holes play directly down a gravel road, so are relatively straight and narrow. The baskets are tucked off to the side, but primarily you are trying to stay in the road.

Holes 4 through 7 as well as 12 play in a wide powerline right-of-way that varies from raw freshly dug dirt to thick scrub.

The most interesting holes were located in the woods. For the most part these were short, tight holes that required hitting a specific and often narrow gap. Holes 9 and 10 stood out as the most "finished" of the woods holes with reasonable width fairways. It looks like hundreds of trees had been cut to make them happen, so hats off to the crew that is making this course happen.

Hole 3 has the basket perched up on a very steep-sided mound that adds considerable challenge. Hole 11 is a crazy short (129') woods shot that plays to a roped island green.

Tee pads are built (or being built) with recycled artificial turf. The turf is surprisingly thick and heavy and looks like it will last a good while. It is being placed on wood and rock bases that also look robust. There are still quite a few mulch tee pads as well.

Cons:

I am not a huge fan of holes that play down roads, as the first three holes on this course do. This is an active roadway with gravel trucks passing frequently.

Holes 4 and 5 play in a really rough area that looks to have been recently dug out. Most of the ground is stripped bare and is pretty lumpy.

Many of the woods holes are really tight, and some don't have a developed fairway or line. Hole 16 stood out as a plinko type hole, even at only 145'. I could see where a ton of work had been done on holes 9 and 10 so perhaps the course is still being developed.

The turf tees were well constructed, but the thick artificial turf and some minor lumpiness made them a little "grabby".

The ground over much of the course is very uneven with lots of roots, stumps, rock, and other debris on the ground. Watch your step and wear some sturdy shoes.

Tee signs were hit-and-miss. Some printed laminated signs were in place, but many holes were missing them.

Other Thoughts:

This course struck me as a work in progress. The woods holes especially could end up being very good with more time and work.

Thanks to Mr. Vernon Kynock for allowing use of his land for the course. My wife and I ate at (I am assuming) his Thunderbird Diner after our round and enjoyed our meal!

Pros:

- Udisc Mapped
- Course map, tee signs and directional arrows make it easy to navigate the course
- Tee signs explain the hole layouts and rules well
- Built turf tee pads on the majority of pads - level turf pads on the rest
- Benches on 1/2 the holes to give your legs a break
- Course board to the left of the first tee with course information
- DISCatcher Pro Baskets
- Putting green basket for warm up
- Good mix of open and wooded holes
- Good mix of short holes and long holes (more short technical then long bomber)
- Ample parking and easy to find
- Lost and found disc box
- Garbage can by 1st tee

Cons:

- Wooded holes have uneven and stumped fairways and in some spots are lined heavily with downed trees and wood - this is much improved since my initial review and the ongoing maintenance is outstanding.
- On open holes, if you get off the fairway, the brush can be thick and easy to lose a disc
- terrain can be hard on discs
- No "clubhouse"
- No washroom facilities

Other Thoughts:

This course has seen a ton of work recently from their dedicated volunteers. If you look past the rugged nature of the course you're going to find one of the more challenging and varied courses in Nova Scotia. This is a must play course.
