-- Good use of land. This is on a former ball golf course, so it's pretty open, but hills are incorporated well as is the small amount of water even though there is no water carry.
-- If you are a long thrower, you will appreciate the length: Seven holes longer than 500 feet and two more within a dozen feet of 500. Only four are shorter than 350 feet.
-- Two elevated baskets (4, 17), sitting on small mounds.
-- Maintenance seems excellent. However, we played less than a week before a tournament, so the course might not be in that type of pristine condition most of the time.
-- Course starts off with good variety with the two best holes among the first four. No. 1 is a slight downhill throw with water on the left and a few trees right to avoid. No. 2 is a great hole, 492 feet, starting up hill, with basket sitting on a downslope that continues well past the basket. No. 3 is the shortest hole on the course (223 feet), a RHFH downhill throw with a hill on the right, trees and some possibility of water on the left. No. 4 is a long tunnel shot with trees on both sides. One side is a steep hill up, and the other side is down toward the river. Once you clear the tunnel (about 350 feet), you'll find an elevated basket. The hole is 552 feet. Only two of the remaining 14 holes are shorter than 397 feet, so prepare for long hole after long hole (all of them mostly open except for one pinball hole in the woods on the back 9). If rest of course matched the first four in terms of average length, the course would be just short of 7,448 feet instead of 8,603 feet.
-- Course flow is good except for 10-11, which requires you to walk mostly the length of 11 parallel to the fairway to get to the tee.
-- No map, but next tee signs are hanging from the bottoms of baskets to help.
-- Disc golf only area.

-- No restrooms or water on site.
-- Trash cans and benches/seating are sparse at best.
-- The 8/10 tee boxes are WAY to close together. And the 8/9 fairways are really close (parallel with OB). 1/18 are not as close but still there is OB to separate them. Given how much room exists on this former ball golf course, this seems really unnecessary.
-- There are some long walks between holes on what is already a long course.

-- Some areas are marked as "Do not throw from here" with a drop zone but no penalty. I was told that is to help prevent erosion.
-- Some of the turf tee pads (repurposed from a football field) look odd with numbers and multiple colors, but they are in good shape.

Heritage Park is a long 18 holes on a ball golf course tucked way into the back of a recreational area. It looks like some of the wooded land was cleared for trails and basket greens, and a couple tee pads.

The baskets were red Chainstars, which caught about like you'd expect them to, and the red was great to make them stand out because these holes were looooong.

Tee pads look like they used to be a turf football field that was pieced up and redistributed for disc golf. Some still have the lines and numbers on them from their past life.

This course is challenging. Mainly because it is long. I don't know if I really feel this is a pro, or a strength, but it is what it is. Being on an old ball golf course, it's pretty open, there are a few gaps between trees you need to hit but nothing very narrow, they're just usually way down the... fairway seems like the wrong word for an open field.

The length. It's hard to stay creative when 12/18 holes are right at or over 400' it sometimes just feels punishing for no reason.

Even though the longer holes are pretty open, there are occasionally super guardian trees at the end of 600+ foot hole. and when I say guardian, I mean three trees all on the same side of the basket, within 5' of the basket. If they grow to be more than 15 years old they'll touch each other to make a wall you have to go around. Seems unfair if you park it after two shots for 690'.

Walking. It's a long walk to the course from the parking area. And it's a long walk from basket to tee (minimum 150', making a long course longer). For Hole 11 you have to pretty much walk the length of the hole then play back the direction you came from.

Landscaping seems to be going downhill fast, if it was a pro by a previous reviewer not too long ago. The wide open fairways were less manicured, and more covered in nettles. The natural beauty of the area is really only featured on 10, and a little on 3 and 4. And I guess 14 where the basket is pushed uphill into the woods, and you have a nice walking path to 15. Same for 16 bakset/17 tee. None of those places are super pretty either, but nothing else on the course was exactly impressive.

I can see where this is a course built for the top-tier competitive players. As someone who can only throw about 300BH/360FH, I had fun but I wasn't blown away. And as much as I would love to see this course on video coverage, I would rather see a course like Panther Creek State Park in Tennessee first, or even Evergreen Flyways in Baytown on that coverage again before this one.

Award for the best tee on the course goes to 17, one of the few where you get to throw downhill. But it also gets the award for the worst basket bc of the crazy steep mound it's on.

Highlight of the round was dinking off the basket on hole 3. I didn't think it was a great hole bc it's so downhill for so short, but then I threw it and proved myself wrong. In my face.

There's a lot of love in this course for the locals. Maybe one day they'll put in some alternate tees so it's more accessible. But as it stands, for those of us who play courses and review them online for fun, it's still a "Very Good" course in my opinion. I looked through a lot of my old ratings to decide whether I would call it "Very Good" or "Excellent" (4.5 was thrown out of contention about 30 minutes into my round), and decided it fit better with the 3.5 group. But a strong 3.5.

If driving through the Belton/Temple area, it might be worth a stop but budget a couple hours. It is not a quick play.

Parking is an issue for now. For casual play, park in Heritage park as far north as you can. There are restrooms here. Walk across the jr soccer fields to holes 8 and 10 tee area. You can see the white stone benches from the parking lot.

A lot of love went into building this course. This use to be a ball golf course that shut down years ago. The city recently purchased the land and allowed for the Disc Golf course to be built.

Being a former ball golf course, the landscaping is pretty good. Many large trees and a few small ponds (that were bone dry when I played it) come into play. Several true par 4 holes and a couple of par 5 holes really make this course a challenge to play.

#2 Drive to an opening in the trees, the basket is on the side of a slope, Easy to overshoot your upshot.

#4 tunnel shot down a path and then opens up to the right. OB off to the left. If you can reach the opening, it is an easy 3 with a good upshot, but reaching the end of the tunnel will not be easy.

#8 my favorite hole, downhill with the river on the right. just a big hyzer and reachable by most bigger armed players.

#12, at 516, top pro's will shoot the big hyzer for an eagle, the rest of us will either try to clear the ponds or hit the gap between the ponds for an upshot.

Hole 17 shoots from the side of a hill down a tunnel to a basket normally sitting on the top of a mound. A pond sits near the mound looking for shots that drift over too far. Big arms will be looking to eagle this, the rest of us need a good upshot for the 3.

Big question of the day, would I play here again? YES, this course is worth driving too. One of the better Texas course right now and is only going to get better. Put this course in your play list if your between Waco and Austin for sure.
