I know why they call it moody woods.. 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Starting off I like to let everyone know what Im personally looking for in a course. I love the scenic aspect of disc golf (this includes boulders, lakes, wildlife, and plantlife- I do study horticulture). With that being stated, I rate a course based on a combination of the scenic factor and the overall course aspects (this includes layout, fairway lines, divesity of holes, and amenities). Moody's overall course aspect highly outnumber's its scenic factor. This course plays through a rather new forest, you will not be lining up to many shots around any old growth trees. Not having any sort of water feature, rock outcropping, or rare plants Moody woods only stacks up to like a 2 for my scenic factor. What makes it get a 4 then? While playing in the National Collegiate Open I noticed several high scores being posted at Moody, and there most certainly is a reason. Some of the tighest lines I have yet to play are out there at moody, hit the line and your probably going to be rewarded with a birdie, miss it and your staring 5 right in the face!
The diversity of holes out here is amazing! I threw every shot in my bag pretty much. There are a fair amount of left turning holes, right turning holes, and more than enough low-ceiling strait shots (which is probally the hardest shot in golf in my opinion). The diversity of length is also really nice here. Plenty of lengthy super tight par 3s that some even consider par 4s, along with a couple of VERY heavily wooded par 5s that offer a birdie with 4 excellent shots.
While this is in SC, the elevation changes at Moody are amazing! Many baskets are perched atop earthen mounds 10-20' above your lie to make putting a little more interesting. I know I took a 6 in Nationals beacuse on 18 I had 3 rollaways, one of them hitting my bag. I noticed a fair amount of benches out there but no water

Cons:

I am all for a course, any kind or type of course. Whether it is pitch-and-putt or championship calibur like this one. Either or you will not hear me complain to awful much about natural tee pads (I actually have a couple at my course). However with the money that the designer obviously has, you would think the natural teepads at moody would be in a little better shape. I realize that it is a new course and many of the roots tripping your run-up will probably go with time, lets hope so at least.
I think the baskets were some type of generic DISCatcher. They didnt say DISCatcher on them but looked very very similar. Although some were not properly put together right because on holes like 2,3,4,5 and 6 the basket seemed a lot smaller dimensions than a typical DISCatcher. Who knows maybe they did this on purpose to add an even extra challenge (I know Hippodrome DG Complex loves to throw everything they can at you lol)
Hole 10 is downright ridiculous. From the tee the hole requires you to throw a very gentle right turning shot about 75-125'. If you miss this narrow window you are absolutly forced to just pitch back into the 8' wide fairway and hopefully scramble for the 4. They really should trim a couple more limbs, scoot the basket back 100' and make it a par 4. It would go from a terrible hole to one of the holes you will remember as being hard, but sick

Other Thoughts:

All in all Moody woods is one of the most challenging courses I have come across. It forces you to make ultra-ultra precision and rewards players who can do this and still throw it 300'. I know this is one of the only courses you will play where the birdie rewards counteracts the bogey risks. I had 5 birdies and an Eagle during the 2012 National Collegiate DG Championships and still only shot even.. Good Luck! You will need it to shoot under par at Moody Woods. When you do you will be in the best MOOD ever, all other times this place will leave you scracthing your head in a very disheartend pissed off MOOD haha
