Beautiful scenery and ball golf course adds an interesting flavor 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 11, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Playing disc golf on the Gulf in a golf cart.
Good use of otherwise unused land.(between ball golf-bg fairways, etc.)
Neat Gulf view
Could be challenging over water shots
Turf tees (not all)
Not super technical

Cons:

Not all tees are turf, some natural, some barely marked
Personally I would like a few more feet of run up for said turf.
No score cards, must down load Udisc for course map.
Pay to play(but hey it's vacation and $5 is not going to hurt me)
fairways may share bg fairways, can be a waiting game

Other Thoughts:

The family made a trip down to Gulf Shores and wanted to take a trip to Dauphin Island. I happened upon this course and decided to give it a shot. This was a fun course to play, and while the size is longer than what I am used to (home course is 4500 ft) it was made easier using a cart(hey, I'm on vacation) First hole was easy to find, but the second took some searching. There were no score cards and was advised they use Udisc for scoring and course map. I do not use Udisc so there was a bit of learning curve. Once I figured that out and was queued in that the Blue Flags denote DG tees, it got easier.
The course had a good number of long and short holes and I feel the pars were very suited to the course. Most of the tees had turf, some were natural and 18 was debatable on where it was. For the turf, personally, run up in my opinion was too short(maybe 8/9') with another 2-3' plywood at the run up end, not the release end. The plywood was not level with the turf. The turf was also in what looks like two frames butted against each other. One longer frame with no seam would seem to work better.
Throwing over water does come into play on two holes with throwing along side water on a few others. One is a neat peninsula style shot that reminds me of famous ritzy bg hole. I sunk a Groove in there and decided it was not worth it after a ball golfer saw a snake where it went in.
Speaking of ball golfer, you do have to be weary of them, we found that we did have to wait a bit for some players and I know we were holding some up. Playing an intended disc golf course, this is commonplace but I feel some ball golfers may not be accustomed to having some one else playing the same fairway but for a different kind of golf.
Overall I enjoyed the course, it was not super technical with a lot of drives being in open fairways but baskets being tucked in the woods. I will note that one was in the rough between two fairways (800ft of pine trees.) I had tree magnet switch on accidentally and my score showed. The flora and fauna was beautiful and not something I am used to. The different wild life, trees, cactus, etc, added to the charm of playing. The terrain, while flat gave some interesting views of beach/gulf area. To draw this to an end, would I go back? Yes, I would. I may walk it next time but enjoyed the cart experience.
