Don’t “BYEpass” Jonathan Bye! 2+ years

Pros:

Nestled in the hills of east-central Ohio is Byesville Village Park. The park is backed up against Wills Creek, and is a great setting for this new course installed in 2020.

+ The "orange theme" at this course is perfect! Baskets are orange, tee signs are orange, the edges of the tees are orange, etc. Makes it easy to navigate and easy to play.

+ Everything is brand new, from the concrete tees to the DISCatcher baskets. There's even a few benches throughout!

+ Multiple enjoyable elevation changes. I really like #2 because it plays downhill and very short, but a missed ace run will likely have you in the creek behind the basket.

+ This isn't the biggest park, but the space was utilized nicely. Most holes are open, but the design incorporates the mature trees, rolling hills, and creek to perfection.

Cons:

- A few holes are really close together. Had to wait for another group to finish #1 because #3 shoots over the same fairway pretty much.

- Also, speaking of #1, the mando to the left of the telephone pole is very bad. I get why they did it, but it basically forces you to throw over the fairway for #3.

- The pars on a few holes are very generous. It's listed as a par 31, but you could make a case for a par 28.

- Only one set of tees.

+ My maximum score for a 9-hole course is 4.0.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, my first impression of JBM was very high. It's an enjoyable course that is in great shape for being just a year old.

Would recommend you check it out if you're in the area!

Pros:

~Nice multi-use park close to town
~Fun layout
~Easy to navigate
~Quick play, can throw multiple rounds if desired

Cons:

~Multiple holes play tight in some spots
~Could be cumbersome when crowded
~Not too challenging to intermediate and above skill level

Other Thoughts:

I was able to visit and play this 9-hole course a handful of times while visiting Byesville for a project I've been working on in the area. It's a quaint little park with some nice pavilions, a playground, basketball courts, and the disc golf course. This will make for a nice family spot, and is appealing to the beginner and recreational disc golfer.

The course layout is decent, with a nice range of hole distances. Most holes are fairly wide open and utilize mandos, the hillside elevation, and some mature trees in their design. Course par is very generous, and the par 4's and 5's truly play as 3's and 4's so scoring under par for an experienced player shouldn't be a problem.

Navigation is straightforward, and you can play a round in a short amount of time if the course isn't crowded. Very repeatable and overall enjoyable, the park land isn't very expansive so the layout installed makes full use of what I could see was made available.

There are spots where the holes play close to one another so a crowded course with varying skill levels could pose issues. A few good ace runs and a few long bombers are rounded out by a few standard holes. Concrete tee pads, signs, and baskets are all fresh and the course installation was very well done. It's a nice clean park with a basic 9-hole course that is very approachable for beginners and casual throwers alike.
