Pros:
-Concrete tees
-Nice DisCatcher Baskets (an update from previous review)
-Signage is OK
-Half the tee shots are blind for some interest
-Mild elevation
-Nicely restored railway depot to check out just on the other side of the tracks
Cons:
-No pars listed, signage has taken a beating
-Fairly short with only one hole over 400'
-Basket for #10 is missing (sleeve in in the ground, no basket)
-Soccer (#6) and baseball fields (#3, #4 and maybe #5) in play
-Shelter and swing set in play on #2
-#8 plays right across the #9 tee box
Other Thoughts:
Kelly Park DGC plays in a nice two section park in the south end of Red Oak, IA. The course is set for 10 holes with good concrete tees and OK signage. Basket #10 was missing during my round and mentioned in a previous review. From seeing a previous review discuss homemade baskets, I wonder if, when replaced, they were only able to get 9 baskets. After the first hole, the course moves clockwise around the perimeter of the park. While I was alone on my round, this appears to be a multi-use park with a couple of shelters, a set of swings, a baseball field and a soccer field. Mild elevation change on the first half, flat on the back 5. About half of the holes have a blind tee shot. You do want to go wide right on #7 as I ended up on a small bump of a hill with many small trees to work around to rescue my disc. There is a very nicely restored railway depot just on the other side of the tracks from the park. Limited hours, I slipped in a visit just before my round. Overall, an above average park course. The knocks are the potential hazards with other activities and the missing basket for #10. Not often do I make it to this SW corner of Iowa, but I would play again, if in the area.
