Unmaintained, no maps, and got lost after hole 3. Skip this one unless you know it gets maintained. drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 24, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

There's a bar and a pool here that seem to be maintained.

Cons:

Cheat Grass everywhere. No carts are available. Barely any tee pads are visible. Extremely difficult to find your way around. Barely any markers to the next tee pad. Paid $10 and was handed a 9-hole ball golf course map which was useful for one hole, maybe two.

Other Thoughts:

Even the neighbors are upset with the upkeep here. This place is going downhill until there is a tournament held. The locals need to organize work parties to save this course because the neighbors are only doing so so that it's not a fire hazard to their homes. Ruined a pair of socks and I'll be picking the cheat grass out of my bag and Keen's for hours.

Kelly Ridge Disc Golf Course Is Mostly Confusing When You Are Trying To Navigate It! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 27, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

I so glad I bucked up for the cart & golf package ($16) because I would have walked for miles attempting to find my way around this course. It was fun zipping around in the little cart trying to locate the tee pads. They're often tough to find especially when there NO tee signs to help you spot them. When I failed to locate a pad or the little ribbons, I just teed off from wherever I wanted on my little safari round.

This was once a regular golf course but apparently went belly up years ago. Judging by the houses that border the course, this was never Pebble Beach but more like a low end municipal course. Everything (And I mean everything) connected with this course has starting to decay and deteriorate. The pro shop is not open so you pay your money at the bar. The cart shed looks to have more derelict carts than running carts. A maintenance shed in the course has suffered a fire and much equipment and mowers etc. are left there in charred blackened remains. The asphalt cart path throughout the course is starting to crack. I did see five deer hanging out in one area. They didn't look as derelict as the rest of their surroundings.

They handed me a map before I set off. It wasn't very helpful at all. Without any tee signs, you're kind of running without lights. I think I stayed on course for about the first six holes before going rogue and basically playing my own safari round the rest of the way.

Cons:

$16 to play and rent a cart.

General unkept/rundown experience.

No signage.

Hit or miss on the green carpet pads.

Typical golf course disc golf. Lots of mediocre holes. Lots of long, wide open boring holes.

Not a natural flow to course.

Other Thoughts:

This course can't possibly survive with just it's disc golf business only. They can't possibly continue to maintain this course and keep the carts running, pro shop open, etc. etc. etc. I can't imagine parceling off the land and selling it individually or in plots. And the neighboring houses certainly aren't upscale enough to help. I would think the only option the current owners might have is to donate the property to the city for a park and let them take over the care and maintenance

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 31, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Newish Disc Catcher baskets. Good mix of long/short holes. Pretty good elevation changes on several holes. Par fours are challenging. Scenic.

Cons:

Some of the tee boxes deteriorating and they are all made of the roll-up fake grass. Most are pinned to the ground. I've brought my own blower to blow the leaves/debris off.

Other Thoughts:

Still a great course. A tad pricey if you get a golf cart. Pretty long to walk it but tried it yesterday for the first time and it was doable.

A rough-hewn gem 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 15, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This review is being written because the DG community may want to know if it's worth the drive. Good news...it's totally worth it. Here are some reasons why:

Creative pin placements that make you concentrate on shot selection.
Good mix of long and short.
Good balance of righty and lefty routes
Lots of fun elevation changes - even kids can get lengthy air time.
Scenic views.
Par 4's!!
Affordable play.
Affordable Golf Carts - you will want one due to the distances between some holes, and the occasional hunting for the next box or basket.
The greens and sand-traps (OB zones) do not detract from the experience, unlike some of the other ball golf courses I've played.
Super nice course owners.

Cons:

Keep in mind that this review is being written during the course's adolescence (it's only been installed weeks ago, not months ago).

Formal Tee Pads are not installed (the owner informed me yesterday that Gregg Barsby and crew were planning to install them in the coming weeks).

No Tee Signs - this would help with OB clarifications and next tee.
No Course Map - now that I think about it, I didn't ask.

That being said, the course flows pretty naturally. Just take your time scouting out lines. And watch out for the occasional neighborhood OB. Our group did have a lost disc on a long down-hill shot.

No public bathroom on the course. This is probably the biggest complain because the fairways are lined with homes. Guys have to be creative; Gals...dang, burned again, huh? (Correction - there is a restroom at hole 6, which can also be easily be stopped at again between hole 11 and 12....thanks for letting me know Philbert!, jetasun)

Other Thoughts:

I do have some concern about the cart paths that disc golfers will inadvertently create going from basket to box and in between. This could lead to erosion and dust that some home owners may complain about. So, a quick recommendation: try to be cognizant of the community surrounding the course. It's true that we pay to play, but they also pay to live there. This gives them some extra leverage.

Overall, this course is situated on a piece of land that suits disc golf perfectly. But if you are into ball golf, keep your expectations to a minimum. ;-)

Congrats and thanks to all that have birthed this new gem. I'm really looking forward to seeing it mature and host some big tournaments in the near future.
