Pros:

One big valley with a nice mix of elevation, spotty trees, and views.

-Amenities: Textured rubber tees, DGA baskets, tee signs with basic maps and distances.

-Environs: This section of the park is essentially a giant grassy bowl. Various sections of the course have nice overlooks of what feel like rolling, hilly pasture. Just as notable are some great views of downtown LA from one segment of the course. Other than some walkers on the perimeter, there isn't other traffic inside the course.

-Elevation: Two breathtaking downhills, several challenging side slopes, and some other moderate hilly holes. Definitely the most notable feature of the park, these slopes alone make for a fun course.

-Loop: A perfect loop of 9 holes. The last basket is just feet from the first tee.

-Shot Shaping/Gameplay: Nothing mind blowing, but a solid series of medium-length holes requiring a combination of angle control, big ripping, and light shot-shaping. There is a moderate number of trees that factor into every hole in some way, some more than others. Generally they form either very generous fairways or last-minute basket guardians. The hills need to be handled smartly, but also have a major fun factor as you smoke some shots off what feel like cliffs. One par-4 is a change of pace for the closing. There are several birdie chances for 300' throwers, and bogey should only happen on a flubbed approach.

Cons:

Pretty standard SoCal stuff.

-Technical Challenge: Or rather, lack thereof. Arguable there are zero technical holes; the toughest shaping gets is avoiding basket-guarding trees.

-Par-3 Standard: 8 out of 9 will feel like you should birdie them in two if you don't. It's not a particularly strategic course beyond controlling for elevation.

-Park Users: This definitely isn't the worst place I've seen for pedestrian traffic, but there were some at-risk sidewalks and two of the holes were being used for a picnic and a photo shoot.

Other Thoughts:

Kenneth Hahn is a fun little course thanks to a pleasant hills environment. You'll enjoy a couple of bomber shots and pretty greens. On the whole, it's not pushing any envelopes and I've seen plenty of courses with similarly elementary shot-shaping. I give it a Typical.

-Parking: There's a fee sometimes to park inside the recreation area. However, I had no trouble parking on Punta Alta Drive and walking in. It was just as convenient.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 3, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Long holes for non-professional players that make for good rips

Every hole presents somewhat of a unique challenge

Some great views of the city along the path

Cons:

There is way too much foot traffic around the course. There is a walking and running trail that runs around the course and makes playing here very dangerous, especially with longer holes. Many of the people walking by are hostile

The signage warning people this is a disc golf course is not prominent enough

Wind can be brutal

I don't like the fact that hole 1 is the most difficult

Tons of gophers on the course

People picnic and lay down in the middle of the fairway. It's extremely frustrating, especially since there is so much other beautiful property within the park

Other Thoughts:

I am not proud to call this my home course. There are plenty of better courses to play in LA, but they are all much longer drives for people who live on the west side. I often choose to do field work instead of playing here.

Pros:

plenty of trees, but still really big and open. ton of elevation change. if youre good at driving, this is your dream course

Cons:

busy on the weekends and it's still an open park so youve gotta avoid the park going public or be prepared to apologize for sticking your disc in their potato salad

Other Thoughts:

you may sprain an ankle as the entire park seems to be one large gopher metropolis

Great for epic drives! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 27, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Every tee has an open fairway for big drives.

- Most baskets are within birdie range.

- 2 tees are from top of a hill, great for epic drives

Cons:

- Can get pretty windy in the afternoon. Best to play earlier in the day.

- Tee pads are showing wear. Might be updated soon.

- only 9 baskets, though room for more.

Other Thoughts:

This is my local course. I play it every week due to the proximity to where I live. I recommend playing during the week since parking is free then.

Open and Windy 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Fantastic setting - Course is at the top of a state park with views of the LA area.

Open space - A good spot to air out some drives. There are minimal trees on this course which makes it good for tracking your shots.

Wheather - Sure this can change on any given day, but you're most likely to encouter sunshine and strong winds at the top of this hill which increases the challenge in a good way.

Family friendly - If you have your kids in tow then there is a ton of stuff to keep them occupied at this park.

Cons:

Pay to play on weekends - However this may relieve course congestion.

Only 9 holes - Yes it only has 9 baskets, but since it isn't overrun with disc golfers you could quickly play 2 rounds.

Bystanders - Park patrons don't always realize that they are lounging in the middle of a disc golf course.

Footing - Although all the fairways are grass, most are overrun with gopher holes which makes walking to the basket an obstacle course.

Other Thoughts:

The more I play this course the more appreciation I have for it. It is challenging and it makes me happy to see this space used for disc golf. If they could somehow sneak another 9 holes in here then this could easily be the crown jewel of disc golf for the westside of LA.

Easy Course with a Nice View 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 22, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good variety of shots and angles of attack
Well maintained grass and field
Elevation changes without being strenuous
Not easy to lose a disc
Above average tee signage
Not crowded on weekends
Excellent views of L.A. and environs

Cons:

Only 9 holes
$6 parking fee on weekends
No major long distance holes
Pedestrians abound

Other Thoughts:

This place is a hidden gem in the big city. The course is pretty quick (even when playing 2 passes to give a full 18).Even though the elevation changes regularly it is not a strenuous endeavor. So I feel this is approachable for all types and especially beginners. The par is approachable and some holes can be birdied with some patience (and luck too perhaps). I think the lack of holes and the $6 parking keeps the crowds at bay.

I am not sure what the overall facilities are like in the park but I did not see any restrooms nearby nor an abundance of trashcans either. They may exist, but I did not spot them.

The course is moderately shaded but I still advise sunscreen in the summer.

Overall I recommend checking this spot out. It makes for a good practice spot given the variety in just 9 holes. It can definitely improve your game. And as an added bonus there are decent food/drink options within a few miles too.

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 11, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

A nice park with respectable levels of challenge. Holes 2 and 4 have tee pads located on cement walking paths that have fun downhill drives. Hole 1 traverses a long slope with tree obstacles, which can make a par difficult. There are some small hills here and there aside from the edge of the bowl that do add to the course, such as on Hole 7. The tree type and density do add enough to the game such that one is not simply throwing around a large field. The signs are well done with accurate distances posted. The holes with tees not on the walking path have rubber tee pads, which seem to be up to the task.

Cons:

There are a few limitations imposed by the size and layout of the property. Hole 9 had some wet grassy areas which will get your feet and socks wet if there have been recent rains. Some uneven ground does present some walking hazards. Not a huge amount of features or course diversity.

Other Thoughts:

A nice addition to an area with few other course options, though it is only a 9 hole course. I visit Venice on a semi-regular basis, and this course is under a half hour away and can be reached without a lot of highway travel. Kenneth Hahn Recreational Park is a nice place to visit even if you're not playing disc golf, with lots of bird species and other areas of interest. The vista of Los Angeles from the MLK memorial is a must see.

Plenty Of Room For Eighteen! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 20, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Kenneth Hahn Park in Los Angeles is a nice sized, pretty park that has a $6 admission fee on weekends. The drive up to the course is especially lovely with a nicely landscaped on the right as you drive in. Drive up the hill all the way to arrive at Janice's Valley which is a large, green grassy bowl. The course plays up, down and around this bowl.

There is a basic course sign at the start. The tee pads are average sized concrete while the baskets are DGA models without numbers. The tee signs are the old school fiberglass ones.

The course, while not overly difficult, does have enough length to challenge us recreational players. # 1 is a 358' par 3 which is set on a steep hillside.

# 2 tees off from up on the street with tape marking the pad (and surprisingly is still there). The sign says 277' for this downhill toss but it seemed longer to me.

# 3 is 286' straight ahead to a basket buried in between some trees and branches.

You then walk up the hill to find the #4 pad. This pad is also taped on the street. You're throwing downhill to the basket 488' in the distance which has a comfortable route between the trees.

# 5 plays 338' slightly uphill.

# 6 is 405' just slightly uphill.

7 is a just over the hill 281' to a blind basket.

# 8 is the first hole where you actually have to shape a shot. It's a 281' anhyser throw where you have trees to avoid.

And then you finish on # 9. It's 500' playing across and then up the bowl to a basket protected by a couple of hanging limbs.

Holes 2 and 4 are both fun downhills and probably give you the opportunity to stretch out your arm.

Cons:

L.A. has had a really wet last week and the course was saturated with standing water in a couple of the lowest areas.

Probable, because of the wet weather, the grass (clover) was a little long. The entire bowl has kind of uneven ground making walking a little bit uncomfortable. Someone needs to bring one of those giant roller machines that they use when the pave the freeways and roof over this entire bowl.

Not a lot of shot shaping needed here. Other than # 8, this is just a decently long point and shoot course.

$6 to enter park on weekends.

Other Thoughts:

Hahn Disc Golf Course is a welcome addition to LA's stable of courses. I'd say it would be a really fun round for that player with a strong arm (325' plus distance) but someone who lacks accuracy or consistency. It has it's niche and another course is always welcome anywhere. There's like a zillion citizens around here and they all need a hobby. Flinging discs around Janice's Bowl might just be the thing for them. Might keep them off the streets, too! And out of the gangs. Maybe, a disc golf gang! And I nominate Apothecary to serve as the first playlord!

La Mirada and Liberty had a baby, and they called it Kenneth Hahn DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 15, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Pretty epic course, for only 9 holes. Great use of the space and dynamic elevation changes. Fun downhill throws and all the holes are challenging. Some of the baskets are buried in the trees, but I'm listing this as a PRO, I love hole 3, completely enveloped under a canopy tree, with one opening in the front. Easy to navigate course, creative use of the terrain.

Cons:

Not many cons, really- teepads need work, there was one that was unusable due to water. Some of the pads are on the surrounding pavement, they could be painted on as opposed to tape.

*Edit - As mentioned before, some sort of signage at the parking lot to the first tee would be key.

Other Thoughts:

I was very pleased with this course. had looked it over because of it being a 9-hole but had never noticed the distances on the holes. The bowl shape of the course gives it a lot of character and the layout is well done. I will definately be coming back!

Pros:

Lots of elevation change, nice baskets and tee signs/pads. Lots of holes to air it out, and has some good downhill distance for a 9 hole course. Most of them our downhill though so your disc will carry.Layout was pretty easy to follow for most part. The park itself is very nice and great for the family. One of the best actual parks I've seen

Cons:

Some of the pins are overly guarded making you layup with no shot to the actual basket. Sprinklers go off and don't stop directly on the holes and surrounding it. Felt like I was at a water park trying to dodge sprinklers. It's kind of a repetitive throw a big downhill shot, and the wind is a nightmare there. You play at the top of the park in a huge bowl and could be a nice 15-18 hole course. Tee pads get standing water because they're plywood in some parts and not good to throw off when sprinklers go off

Other Thoughts:

I pretty much covered it in my pros and cons but wind can be a big factor here and there's potential for this course to be great and a few holes are. Hole 1 and 2 start off super fun after that I kind of lose interest

A short but well guarded 9-hole course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 7, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is rarely crowded--weekend or weekdays. I've never seen more than 3 total groups here and I've pretty much never had to wait. Great beginner course with mostly par 3's, only one of which is longer than 400 (and even that one is pretty downhill). Lots of interesting elevation changes since the course is in a bowl shaped field. There's also a lot to do in the rest of the park area (exercise machines, sports fields, trails, playgrounds, picnics) so it's a good place to spend a day.

Cons:

If it's your first time playing it's sometimes a bit difficult to find the next hole. Plus some of the tee boxes are on/across from a walking path that's usually full of pedestrians. A couple of the holes (especially #3) are insanely well guarded by trees and make anything less than par impossible. Because of it's elevation it is usually quite windy. The tee boxes don't win any style points considering they're all just large pieces of plywood bolted to the ground... There is poor drainage and they water the fields in the mornings so there is always a change of standing water on hole #9.

Other Thoughts:

I would try and avoid it on the weekends as there is a 6$ parking fee and the park is absolutely packed with cars. Be prepared to wait in a line of cars to get in and have to hunt for a parking space.

The tale of 2 courses 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 25, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

9 Hole grip it and rip it course. Pretty much wide open and fun to play. Tee boxes and signage are installed so no problem navigating. 1st day I played there wasn't any wind so I invited a friend who had never played to join me on the 2nd day not realizing what a beast this course is with a stiff breeze. Of course the next day there were 25 mph winds and gusts higher than that but we had a great time playing and he is converted from ball golf to discing. I did have a putt hit off the top of the 5th basket, catch the wind and launch into the top branches of the tree next to the pin which I have never seen before. Still a great course and very challenging with a stiff breeze.

Cons:

Plenty of non throwing pedestrians so need to be careful of them and share the park. Everyone was kind enough to move when I told them what we were doing but I played during the week, don't know what it is like on the weekends. Gopher holes are everywhere so watch the footing while walking or on the runup (hole 18). My biggest con is that it is only 9 holes but who knows what the future holds. Alternate tees could make this into an "18" hole course.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 3 is very well guarded by the 3 trees, too well guarded in my opinion.

Pros:

Fairly long holes, no easy birdies for amateurs. Good use of the space. This is a large space for a nine hole course and all of it used to make spacious course. Pretty good walk for nine holes. No possibility of losing discs. Fun to play despite not being finished yet.

Cons:

Tee boxes under construction. Basket numbered sign and arrows to the next tee box would be helpful. These may be planned as this is still under construction. A sign near parking lot to find the first hole is needed.

Other Thoughts:

Would rate this four stars for a nine hole course once completed with good signage.
