Well targeted golf course

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 25, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good equipment, solid baskets and clear tees
-Well maintained property. It's a multi-use council run golf, footgolf and disc golf park so it is well mowed and trimmed
-Good use of the exisiting features. For a golf course style course there are some tunnel shots, elevation changes and obstructed greens
-Really well targeted for the casual player in the UK (50-90m holes)
-Great use of a small property

Cons:

-Grass tees (the ground is nice and sandy though, very few issues with mud)
-Distance will circumvent basically all of the challenge here. All of the foliage is quite low so over the top shots are not out of the question
-Only par 3s
-A few holes put the course boundary (gardens) into play for errant shots which made me a bit nervy, especially with a bit of wind up
-There's some overlapping fairways which makes navigation a bit confusing, and knowing the correct target took some working out. The basket density in some areas was confusingly high

Other Thoughts:

Hopefully we'll see more local events at this place, it's certainly set up to be a breeding ground for new players!

Course Designer reviewing

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Great baskets (DGUK Strongholds)
- Great Signage throughout
- Good use of land
- Plays well alongside other golf variants
- Free to play for DGUK Members, cheap to play otherwise.
- Interesting and fun holes testing a range of shots.

Cons:

- No tee pads yet
- It's a very compact course, a number of Disc Golf holes had to be shortened vs the golf holes for safety reasons to avoid scatter into numerous other fairways.
- Has to follow the golf layout which has some strange flow designs - Hole 10 and 11 are notable for this having to walk back on yourself.
- Easy to play to the wrong basket - vinyl numbered wraps for the baskets will be going on shortly.

Other Thoughts:

This is the third DGUK membership course in England and follows Fairways and Blacknest with another quality course in an inner city park. See the Disc Golf UK website for details on membership. The design was a co- Design with DGUK's Richard Hatton and Rachel Malley, this is her first and we believe the first permanent 18 hole course by a female designer in the country., there will be more

DGUK members play for free and for anyone else it is only £5 a round which is well worth the money for this beautifully maintained and fun course.

Holes range from 60 - 100 meters but there is good use of elevation and terrain to create some tricky holes amongst some gimmes.

There is a challenge on each hole to all levels of players, low canopies require control and use of ground play.

All in all a lovely course on a lovely piece of well maintained property. The only thing keeping the score below a 4 is the lack of tees and the restrictions from space and flow put on it by the golf layout.

Toilets, parking and other facilities are all on site and the course is worth a detour to play, Couple it with a trip to the nearby Sherwood Pines and Hucknall's Leen Valley if you are in the area for a day.
