Lake McMurtry The North Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 2, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course starts out with the first 3 holes in heavily wooded corridors that require very technical throws to navigate. Hole 4 is a bomber that you have to stay right or be in the woods with no shot. Holes 6 & 7 are fairly open with birdie possibilities. Hole 8 is a 531 foot bomber that closes down in the last 100 feet back in to a narrow corridor. Hole 9 is a short hole that starts in the woods then out and back in to the basket, proper placement of your tee shot is a must. The next 4 holes are fairly open but require some navigation around the trees scattered throughout the area. Hole 14 has a tight tee shot that needs to be about 200 feet, then back in to a narrow corridor for the remaining 300 feet. Hole 15 is uphill and heavily wooded. 16 is possible to birdie with a properly placed tee shot coming out of the trees. Hole 17 requires a low tee shot coming out of the trees as the landscape drops downhill and the hole plays almost 800 feet with a road that plays OB all down the left side. Then finish on 18 another 800 foot bomber with OB all down the left side that finishes with the last 100 feet in a heavily wooded area.

The alternate tees take about 1,150 feet off the length.

Whether you play the long or alternate tees, this course will require a variety of shots and test your game.

Cons:

The course is new and is still a little rough. However the crew at the lake are constantly making improvements and continuing to mow and shape the course.

Other Thoughts:

This course is the 2nd at Lake McMurtry, the combination of both courses will begin to make it on many "must play" lists as people play them and discover the challenge.

When you go to play take plenty to drink, the courses are long and the store is not always open to get drinks.
