Great Small Town Beginner Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 27, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beginner to lower intermediate level course set in a busy multi-use park in a small town. Park is very clean and relatively quiet.

Baskets - 9 very grippy DGA baskets. These are painted silver and blue. They caught great. Hole numbers on basket.

Tees - 1 (somewhat) natural hole per tee. Tees are marked with a large wooden post.

Signs - Wooden posts at each hole lists distance, pro par, and amateur par.

Variety - Mature trees throughout the course create lines and provide the challenges. There are enough trees to make this a difficult course for a beginner. Intermediate to advanced will not have difficulty on 1-7. Holes 1-6 are between 190-240 feet. Hole 7 is an ace run. Holes 8 and 9 are both much longer and difficult than the rest of the course that border a hill with a large water hazard on top. Hole 8 has a nature preserve and a walking path to add challenge. 2 blind shots - 3 and 9. No truly open holes. Obstacles on every hole. 6, 8, and 9 are the holes that stand out the most.

Easy to navigate. Once you know where to start, this course flows great. Longest walks are 4-5 and 7 to 8. After basket for 7, cross the parking lot towards the hill.

Restrooms, benches, and trash cans on site. Very clean park.

Also, playground on site for children.

Only course in the immediate area and under 5 minutes from the highway. Easy to get to. Signs will point you to the park.

Food and beverage options near highway if you need it.

Cons:

This isn't really a con, but only wooden signs mark the hole. You can tee on either side of it. If course was played more, tees would be worn into ground.

Course was squeezed into the park. However, there is enough room to add a 2nd tee for each hole (another wooden post). 8 and 9 could use a shorter tee. Do not really go with the distance and difficulty of the rest of the course.

No signs when you enter park that point you to the start of the course. I found it based on the map on this website. Thank you to whomever added it.

Next hole signs would help on 5 and 7.

No nearby courses to compliment this course (there are a few within 30 minutes but not the same difficulty level).

Other Thoughts:

There really is nothing wrong with this course. It is a starter course in a small town. Added tees/more distinct tees, a map, and better signs would improve this course, especially for first time players. 9 more wooden posts and a few extra signs should not cost more than $150.

I played this course with my wife and she absolutely loved it. Although no longer a beginner, she absolutely loved the course. It was the right difficulty level for her. We have been wanting to play it every time we go to Cincinnati but for the first time, weather allowed us to play. I would recommend it if passing through and looking for a quick play (less than 30 min to play) or a beginner in the area.
