A Mess in the Middle

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 27, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Big parking lot; follow the walking trail across a footbridge and up to the first tee. The first and second holes are a bit close to a picnic pavilion, and several other holes intersect with walking trails or playing fields. Combination of open and lightly wooded holes, try to visit when others aren't going to be using the park

+ Mostly unremarkable, but two holes rise above the mean: #2 is a downhill across an open field and into a narrow wooded gap, then left dogleg. At around 350' the par or 4 is generous - it's a really good par 3 hole requiring a controlled teeshot through the gap and fading late. Hole #8 is an uphill dogleg right, with a teeshot having to make it through one of several narrow gaps up on a ridge before the dogleg. Close to 400', it's another generous par 4 that makes for a really challenging par 3.

Cons:

- The middle holes vary from dull, to dangerous, to outright stupid. #5 and #6 play back and forth across an open field. Anyone teeing on 6 will be throwing at a basket directly between the tees for 5 and 7. They're placed so closely together that the two tees might be inside Circle 1. And then the hole design for #7 is back out into the same field, but this time it's a horseshoe around woods on the left back to a basket - that might be all of 60' directly to the left of the tee

Other Thoughts:

~ Very simple signs that do the job, with hole number, par, length, and a simple map. Basic rubber tees and DisCatchers

~ Long walk through the woods back to the parking lot. You follow one of the hiking trails, and probably wish they had used some of these woods for the layout

~ Pleasant enough for a park 9, though you really have to watch out of other park users - and need to grin and bear it when playing the U-turn hole
