Short and sweet

Pros:

Main Street Park fills a smallish piece of land right in Coopersville, MI (between Grand Rapids and Muskegon). The park seasonally plays host to six holes of disc golf.

Despite having only six holes in a mostly wide open park, there is some fun for beginners here. The first three holes have mild elevation changes to work with, with #1 and #3 playing downhill and #2 uphill. The remaining three holes are flat, but there is a creek in the brush off to the left. The creek is most significantly in play on the finishing hole, where you have to throw over a bend in it depending on where you tee off from. A couple of the holes also have a tree or two between tee and basket.

The baskets are red Chainstar Pros that were in like-new condition as of my visit. Small stones with arrows are mounted in the ground at the foot of each basket, pointing towards the next tee. There are a couple of picnic tables and trash cans near the parking lot.

Cons:

There are no tee pads, signs, or markings of any kind. The arrows under the previous baskets are the only non-digital way to know where to tee off from. Some basic tee signs would make this feel more like a course and less like a practice area.

Related to this - the hole distances depend where you tee off from. I think they are slightly longer than what is listed here, but they are definitely very short regardless. It's an ace race on every hole if you can throw 200'.

The parking area and picnic tables are in play on hole 1, and the holes are all pretty close together. It's all line-of-sight though so I'm not too concerned.

No kiosk or restroom.

Other Thoughts:

According to UDisc, the baskets are pulled here in the winter. I updated the page here accordingly. I also thought about entering this as a practice area instead of a course, but the stone arrows convinced me that someone wants this to be considered a course. You could definitely play safari style between the baskets if there is no one around though - and if this were re-categorized as a practice area, I would likely bump my rating up quite a bit.

Overall, this course is nothing special but I view it as a really nice spot for beginners to practice. There are three simple elevation change holes and three simple water hazard holes that can help teach players how to account for those obstacles, with short overall hole distances to further accomodate frustration-free learning. With the safety issues being all line-of-sight, I feel pretty comfortable recommending this one if you or someone in your crew is brand new to disc golf and looking to practice at an easy, pleasant park. For baggers, it's a very quick play. Travellers looking for the best courses in the area probably saw the blue color course icon on the map and aren't even reading this. :)
