Pros:
1. Good mix of wooded, open, water, elevation, and some natural OB.
2. Challenging with the opportunity for big arms to score well (not me).
3. Beautiful public park that is well maintained.
4. Good signage and excellent tee pads.
5. Practice basket and standard HB Design course signage that makes it easy for a person to find hole 1.
6. Two nine hole loops that return to the parking area. There are multiple smaller loops that can be utilized to change the order of holes played if one wanted.
Cons:
1. There's a few long walks between holes (1 > 2, 4 > 5, 13 > 14).
2. A few fairways are close to each other with nothing defining their separation. Holes 1, 10, and 18 could see errant shots impede on other hole's players.
3. Some of the par 4's could be considered soft par 4's.
4. Needs one more flight of steps near hole 2.
5. The course is a little more open than I like. If trees can be planted on the outside of holes 1, 4, and 11, I believe it would be a huge improvement. Maybe some fast growing pine trees to create a longer Keriakes feel. This would up my rating to a 4 easily.
Other Thoughts:
All in all a fun challenging course. My favorite hole was hole 3. What a reward to play that clean and get my par. You'll see it when you play here! Hole 7 has a long basket I wish I would've played. It looked more fun than the short.
I recommend playing the course in this order: 1, 6 ~ 10, 2 ~ 4, 11 ~ 18. It'll save you wasted steps.
There is a beginner 9 hole course across the street at the Lions Club. Just leave a donation in the box. What a great set up the city of Marion, KY has for disc golf!
