Pros:

Cons:
-Is only 9 baskets, "B" tees are the "back 9"
-Not a lot of variation on back 9, except 6B
-2 shelters come into play on #1 and #6
-#9 basket leaves you toward the back of the course, long walk back to #1
-You'll need the map on the first round to make sure you're shooting at the right basket
-West side of course plays near some private yards, just be aware

Other Thoughts:
Montezuma DGC is located in a city park on the west side of Montezuma, IA. This is a 9 basket with "18" tees set-up. 3A/2B use the same tee and 7A&B are the same, so really 16 tees. Take a pic of the map before you get started to keep headed at the right basket and the right next tee. Most lines are open, seems a few trees that were in place were lost in the 2020 derecho. Some elevation comes into play and you do need to watch your shot along 3, 4, and 7 to stay out of back yards (not a huge issue, just one to watch). The 18 to 9 format is a little strange for me, I understand utilizing the space and wanting 18 when you only have room for 9, but make a better 9 instead of stretching. Also, #9 is 2/3 of the way back and more than halfway across the course, making for a long walk back to your vehicle or to play the "back 9". Those 2 parts really knock the rating down for me. It's a serviceable 9 hole course, would play it if I lived in the area, but probably won't go out my way to play it again.

Pros:
-Excellent Tee Pads
-Great Signs on A pads
-Little in the way of obstacles - Great for a learning or practice course
-Nice little play area for your kids to enjoy while your playing the course.
-Very clean and well maintained.

Cons:
-Very small park where you have to shoot across and around other baskets. If anybody else is playing please be mindful of their presence.
-Not much in the challenge department. There is some elevation and some tree's but there's almost an easily wide open route to the basket.
-Parking and insanely high speed bumps
-Very close to a residential section. Can easily end up with a disc in a persons yard.
-18 hole is misleading its actually a 9 hole course with alternate Tee pads that are generally close together so your not really getting much of a difference in your shots.

Other Thoughts:
Very nice little course to try out. Great for general practice throwing or growing the game by teaching somebody new. Be very mindful of the drive in as I drive a Lincoln and still bottomed out on the insanely high speed bumps, as I didn't want to lose my exhaust there I parked in the back at the cemetary.

A lot packed into a tiny space 2+ years

Pros:
Up front, this course is really a 9-hole course with dual tee pads. However, as indicated by the kiosk, it is to be played as an 18 hole course, with the A pads as the front nine, and the B pads as the back nine. My review, however, will be written considering it as a 9-hole course.
- Great signage all over the course. From pictograms on the "A" tee pads, to the map and kiosk, very well done.
- Great, new baskets.
- Pretty well perfect concrete tee pads. Dual pads (save #7) give a different look at the pin in most instances.
- #5 A & B both are pretty cool hole designs (safety aside)
- #6 B a nice little forced tunnel shot.
- #9 A & B are both cool downhill shots.

Cons:
- Safety is a huge concern on this course. Not only for other park goers, but if there are any other discers on the course, there could be major issues. Every single fairway (except for 6B) runs parallel, through, over, or into another fairway, basket, or teepad. Especially bad is the 6A tee bad in the middle of 5's fairway. The road is also very close on #1A, and is literally in play on both 5A & 5B. I imagine this park doesn't get a lot of traffic, but your disc will end up in another hole's fairway while playing this course, perhaps multiple times.
- Holes #1 - 4 don't look the same, but you can play the same shot for all of them. I threw a RHFH shot for all 8 drives from these 8 pads.
- Course doesn't loop, which is unfortunate. Probably weren't any real options, but #1 tee and #9 basket are at opposite ends of the park. You'll want to park in the first parking loop to be halfway between both.
- There had been a bit of rain over the last couple weeks when I played, and most of the many low-lying areas were still very squishy.
- Holes #1 - 4 don't look the same, but you can play the same shot for all of them. I threw a RHFH shot for all 8 drives from these 8 pads.

- I certainly was disappointed in making the trip down off of the interstate, to find that it wasn't a true 18 hole course. Not to say I didn't enjoy my round, because of course I did. Just was a little misleading, and wasn't exactly what I was expecting to find.
- In full disclosure, most of the reasoning for my low-ish rating are my safety concerns with how much is packed into this park. Otherwise, this is a pretty typical rec 9 park course.
- Very glad this course exists, in the end! Lots of time and effort has been put into it, and it's a great place to grow the sport in a smaller community like this!
