Nine holes, THICK prairie.. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 3, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are nine baskets. Each basket is in fine shape. There are nine wooden tee pads (just a stick) with the hole number engraved on it that you are throwing towards.

You need a wide variety of shots.

Professionals might lose a disc on this course!

Cons:

No tee pads.

As an advanced player, I only wanted to throw six of the nine holes. A beginner (one was with me) only threw three of the nine holes. There is THICK prairie grass throughout the entire course, and these fairways are LONG and NARROW. If you cant throw 250 feet and land on a ten foot strip, your disc will either be lost on the water on the right or lost in the prairie weeds on the left...

Hole nine was unplayable (I attached a picture).

You throw across the one road that leads to the park.

You throw across the parking lot in the park.

When you finish hole nine you have to walk all the way back to the start (the course doesn't loop back to the beginning).

Other Thoughts:

This course might have been okay when created, but the prairie grass makes some of these holes near impossible. I don't love needed to throw across the road (hills both directions, cant tell if a car is coming or not) or needing to throw across the grassy parking lots.

Holes were designed well, but the lack of maintenance made this one mostly unenjoyable for me.

Tough to Rate 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 16, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- challenging
- good use of elevation changes and space available
- well maintained park
- not busy

Cons:

- grass, dirt tee pads
- rough and weeds/grass is VERY thick
- pretty short, no real chances to open up the arm

Other Thoughts:

This is a tough course to rate. On one hand, it's challenging and pretty well designed for the space available - many holes have elevation changes and water comes into play on several holes. On the other hand is the "rough". It's THICK. Tall native grasses (like 5 feet tall) and dense undergrowth (trees/bushes) that make finding a wayward disc a real chore.

Add in that you could easily lose a disc to the creek on a few holes, and this really becomes a course where playing safe and just surviving becomes the norm.

Almost need two ratings - one for early spring, late fall, when the grass and weeds are dead/dormant and one rating for summer when the course is borderline unplayable (or at least unenjoyable).

Decent 9 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a great 9 hole for this area, it's about a 45 minute drive to the nearest course. It is well kept, grass mowed and trees trimmed. It is at a camp grounds, but it is nicely nessled in it's own area out of the way. It utilizes some hilly areas that can't really be used by anything else, so you should not feel crowded. It has a small variety of holes and you are able to utilize a few different lines per hole, so it doesn't really get boring.

Cons:

There is a lot of tall grass and thick wooded areas that surround the fairways making a lot of OB, but it can be a little difficult to find a stray disc. no real signage, only posts that show what hole and the tee is just a 4x4 that has the distance engraved. Still pretty easy to find the baskets though.

New Vienna Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-backhand friendly course
-clean course
-nice baskets (numbered)
-plays the terrain well

Cons:

-no signs
-grass/weeds overgrown
-tough to find
-no really variety in holes

Other Thoughts:

The course is in a campground, so if it were to be busy, you are throwing around people. The course is a side thought, and baskets were randomly placed. The surrounding terrain is the only thing that made it challenging and at times frustrating. THe weeds are very high and the thorn bushes are everywhere, and with some very heavily overgrown areas, finding disc can be tough. If you played it in the winter, or early spring, the course would be very easy with little to no challenge. I personally did not like the drive to get to the course. The course its self was short, and just alright.
