Horribly confusing 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 26, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Course would be fine if it was labeled properly. Mostly clean. What little trash there was could easily have been from just the past day or two. Lots of elevation changes, looks like it would be a pretty park during growing season. Good mix of short and long holes.

Cons:

First tee is slick material, the rest of a mix of sidewalk or natural. Only one actual concrete tee. Signs are located at the ends of the tees, affecting follow through for right hand back hand throwers. Only a few holes actually have a diagram pointing to the correct basket. Hole two has a random basket in the middle of its fairway that does not appear to be an actual hole. Number plates on the baskets do not match the actual hole number. Very few signs indicating next tee location. Diagrams seem out of date, don't appear to match up to actual hole layout. Excess leaves make it easy to roll an ankle due to uneven ground beneath leaves.

Other Thoughts:

Get some signage and this would be a great little nine-hole. I do not recommend visiting without a local guide. Very easy to throw on the wrong basket or miss tees altogether. I never did get all of the holes figured out.

By my own rating system, I would give it a 5 out of 10.
.5/1 Some trash cans, not enough.
.5/1 Some benches, not enough.
0/1 Mostly useless signage.
0/1 Tee quality.
1/1 Elevation Changes
.5/1 Use of lines
1/1 Maintenance of lines (no overgrown/storm damaged branches obstructing intended lines)
.5/1 Some trash, but not excessive.
0/1 Too much natural debris.
1/1 Good mix of hole length.

Refreshing Round 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 28, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good use of property.
-Easy to follow layout. (The red paint on the basket indicated where the next tee was.)
-Trees used in a challenging way.
-The two holes that used sidewalk as tee pads were definitely welcome.
- I like the way they created tee signs. (I am thinking of using the same method.)

Cons:

-Mostly without tee pads.
-The holes that did have pads were wooden, and were dangerous as we were playing while the grass was wet.
-Hole #2 could have been better with a clearer route to the basket.
-The course layout on this site needs to be updated to reflect hole 3's new layout. You can see the basket from the goal, so we figured it out.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, I liked this course. The trees were used quite well to provide challenge to a waterless course. I would love to play if I happen to be in the area again. The lack of tee boxes was the real downside for me. Installation of tee boxes would have improved the rating significantly.

Nice campus course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays on a fairly open piece of land with some lightly rolling hills and scattered mature trees. A small creek runs through the property, it was dry when I played but could be played as an OB area on a few holes. A couple baskets use nearby trees nicely to keep the course from feeling quite so open. The distances are somewhat varied, without any holes that are too long for the intended audience. The elevation available here is limited, but the design tried to take some advantage of the small hills. Hole directions are varied pretty well, so the wind that's almost always present in the area adds some different challenges.

The baskets are new, and the tee signs are basic but plenty informative. Painted rungs on the baskets point the way to the next tee, so even though there are a couple longer walks it's easy to find your way around. A practice basket near the 1st tee is a nice touch for warming up.

Cons:

This is a fairly short 9 hole course on a mostly open piece of property, so there simply isn't a lot of room to make a course that will challenge better players. I think this course was mostly well laid out given that it's a campus course but there isn't enough variety nor any punishment for bad shots to keep things too interesting. With no brush, not a lot of chance for rollaways and only scattered trees most players will be able to pretty easily recover for a 3 after poor drives on all the holes. One hole plays through a denser stand of trees, but the lines that were left are a bit odd and felt a bit strange compared to the rest of the course.

The natural tees are fairly serviceable, but there's evidence that players throw from next to the existing spots already so the compaction and erosion will grow if that continues. A couple tees have built up tees, another surface over the top would be really helpful as even a little dew can make that really slick.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice quick stop for a short round, and it's a great course to have on campus and to introduce new players to the sport. I rate all courses on the same scale, so the number isn't very high for this course, but I do appreciate the value of a fun course for teaching beginners or for a quick round. If you're in the area, a stop here is worth a bit of time, and there is ample opportunity for alternate shots using the elevation and trees to make a little more challenging holes, especially since the course doesn't seem too popular.

Ride, Ride, Ride Rangers RIde 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 18, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The grounds are well kept here. There is a practice basket in the NW corner to warm up at.
Rounds should play quickly here. The course flows logically.
***Since the time of this review signs have been installed and show the layout of the hole and have the distances as well.***
There is a good mix of open and tree lined holes. This course also uses the available elevation(what little there is) to its fullest.
There are red painted rungs on the baskets to help guide you to the next tee. New Mach III baskets with the Ranger logo on the nickels.
Disc loss should be minimal here. This is a good course for beginners and advanced level players will find some challenging shots here as well.
The designers used what appears to be an unused piece of land pretty well.
There is a good mix of short and moderate length holes as well.
Hole observations:
1-Plays from North to South with the basket out in the open, parking lot on the left.
2-Uphill shot with a group of trees to shape your shot.
3-Open hole with a few pines on the righthand side.
4-Similar to 3 with the basket out in the open.
5-Shorter, downhill shot with a nice gap to hit upon approach.
6-A downhill shot with a few trees protecting the basket.
7-Slightly downhill, low ceiling shot with the basket close to the ravine.
8-Plays South to North with a few trees on the righthand side, basket just before the bridge.
9-Slightly uphill shot that slopes to the left a bit.

Cons:

No amenities here so plan accordingly.
Most of the holes have natural tee pads which some might find subpar, for me they were just fine.
The walk from 2's basket to 3's tee and 4's basket to 5's tee was a bit long.
Wind will likely be a factor on a few holes mainly 1, 3, and 4.

Other Thoughts:

This is a typical college campus style course. Not a destination type of a course but if you are in the area or passing through its worth a play. Its a good start to try to grow disc golf in NW Oklahoma. Also its the only public course in Enid, with the other course in town being at Vance AFB in which you will need clearance to get on.
Hopefully this will spark some interest in disc golf so NW Oklahoma can get more courses.
After replaying this course now that the trees have bloomed this course plays a notch more difficult than it did in the winter time. Lines are more defined on several holes so shot shaping will be needed at times. Also the addition of signage is an added bonus as well.

Only course around for the public 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 5, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course is well maintained by the University. Baskets are visible from tee boxes with red paint indicating direction of next tee.

Cons:

Mostly flat and straight shots, grass tee pads except 3 and 4 use the existing patio and sidewalk. A lot of gopher mounds and large wet area if more than 1.5 of rain.

Other Thoughts:

Parking lots and roads are out of bounds, number nine is a mando on the right side so we are not throwing into players on one tee.
