My type of course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 20, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-A decent mix of holes taking advantage of the elevation and open areas
-The grounds were well maintained with trash cans at each hole
-A quiet wooded course with no one else in sight
-Multiple tee pads with different approaches on most holes
-The majority of holes seem well thought out and enjoyable to play
-Even though its a wooded course, the trees are mostly older with plenty of room between them
-They've been doing work on the course and have recently put in steps on some of the slopes which is a nice plus.

Cons:

-No maps of the course or hole maps means you're throwing blind or need to scout ahead
-The course plays near a stream on several holes, would've liked that to come into play more including a shot over it
-At present no alternate hole placement, but there are signs its being considered
-Could see the potential for lost discs when some of the rough grows in
-Not the biggest con, but hole 18 was one of the less enjoyable holes
-Some of the pads are close together, with one that the par changes from a 3 to 4 with maybe 30 ft difference and not much of a change

Other Thoughts:

Would've rated this a 3.75 if possible, but as I feel its closer to a 4 than 3.5 I rounded up. A few holes are long par 3s where you really need to make two decently long and very accurate throws to have a chance at par, while other 3s are easy to birdie.

Overall this was a very enjoyable course and I'll be coming back for more

Very impressive and fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 29, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

This was probably the nicest front nine I have played so far. The huge trees and expansive views for some of the holes made it really fun, but still challenging.

Cons:

A few of the back nine holes were just ok for me. It's also a bit of a wetlands area in one spot, so it was quite muddy for one hole.

Other Thoughts:

This course would make for a really great tournament. It was an hour drive for me, but well worth it.

Pasture Golf is Real Golf! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 25, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-The atmosphere at Parker's Pasture pretty much speaks for itself. You're located in a quiet area in the south on a pasture with a relatively hilly terrain. I was playing in a tournament with a guy from Atlanta and he told me how awesome this new course is. His words, "It's awesome, wooded, and hilly! You're playing on the pasture the whole time!" Played a fun round with Shadrach3. Course had light foot traffic when we played, making it seem more of a real experience in the middle of nowhere.

-Different options for different skill levels. Whether you play the long or short pads. In regards to variety you'll find the longs to be a bit harder to predict, even though there are a few par fours on the shorts along with one par five. The longs have three par fours and two par fives. Some of the shorts are harder than the longs. For example, #14 is a slightly uphill par three from the short and nearly 400' long. It's a 495' dogleg par four from the long pad. The long is a little bit easier than the short since it isn't much longer and par is a stroke higher. More often than not, you'll see many par threes that are more difficult from the longs since they are longer and more demanding.

-Elevation is very nice, more of it on the long pads! Making them a lot more fun to play in my personal opinion. Hole three is an awesome par three playing downhill. The greatest use of elevation is on this hole from the long. Basket is a near 50' below if not that. The short pad probably has an elevation loss of about 30'. Hole five looks more scary than it actually is. 635' from the long and down a large hill. So another great downhill hole! The fairway is actually straight the entire way and down a maybe slightly wider than average wooded fairway. Some fun uphill shots too such as #17. Only 175' but significantly uphill! The elevation on the holes that play uphill is not as strong as a couple of the ones playing downhill.

-Tee pads are nice and long! Dual pads on many holes, some share a tee pad. The holes that share a pad are generally easier holes on the longs.

-Open players with an average of maybe 970 will face trouble due to different shaped fairways. The par fours and fives will probably be less difficult than some of the par threes to pro players, meaning that Parker's Pasture is not a gold level course. A gold course where the par fours and fives are generally tougher. Regardless of the skill level, the par threes will probably have a wider standard deviation of score. The par fours are a lot more similar in challenge level. Some of the par threes are simple. Such as the first hole. Only 250' without a whole lot of potential trouble. Or holes seven and seventeen. #7 is a slightly downhill ace run. Pretty wooded, but wide gap. #17 is the shortest hole on the course. Those holes can be birdied by most players. Then there are holes #10-12. All are very tough. A typical MPO division in a C or B-tier will probably average over par on all three of those holes. All have tight fairways, considerably bizarre. But not close to impossible.

-It's very difficult to decide what hole gives you the best of the Pasture itself. I thought #15 showed the best of it. Love this hole! It's pretty flat, but may actually be my favorite hole here! It's more open than most of the holes here. You see a mando while teeing off. You have to throw a slower hyzer in order to make it and have a look for birdie on this par five. The walk down the fairway is very pretty, and the pin placement is very cool just past a tree cluster.

-Kiosk beside hole one consisting of a course map. Good indication on where you start.

Cons:

-Despite it being well polished, the rough is very unforgiving once you get to hole eight. I was barely in the rough after my approach shot on #8 and I was maybe 75' from the pin. I had no other option but to pitch out. The woods to the right are very hard to filter through as well. Holes 8-16 are not easy on first timers. You have to really investigate each fairway before you can shred this course. Grass was pretty high in some spots too.

-On #12, there is a creek in play. Good use of water, yes! The problem with that is the fact that the water hazard is on private property. Making it a little more risky to retrieve your disc if you land in there. While we are at it, #12's fairway is a bit strange. I didn't dislike the hole, but many players will. The odd shape and technical difficult could easily implement a bad tree kick in the water.

-No tee signs. Since it's more warm to players that really know it, you'll want to walk up a lot of the fairways. Could use some "next tee" signs too. Wasn't a problem for me since I played a round with Shadrach3.

Other Thoughts:

-I love Parker's Pasture! It's not a two-faced design but the challenge really varies here. Making it very appreciable! There were a few strange holes but I didn't dislike any of them. #16 long is probably the most strange. It feels like a miniature par four since it's a dogleg right. The landing zone is maybe 150' from the pad and the basket is maybe 160' from the landing zone. I threw a musket on a huge anhyzer line over the woods and was maybe 45' from the basket in the woods. Very particular on what you throw. Seems like a standard three for most players if they do most things right. The hole is more open, allowing more room to be risky. So I didn't dislike it.

-None of the holes are really open, but most of them aren't very wooded either. So it's not always risky to throw a driver.

-Make sure you use the address on U disc. The given address online will not bring you here. Anyway, I love this course. The longs are more fun than the shorts I think, but the shorts still look pretty fun.

More Bragging Rights for ATL 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 25, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Yet another excellent course in Atlanta, Parker's Pasture delivers skill-demanding but manageable woods golfing.

-Terrain and Nature: Holes range from moderately to heavily wooded--nothing pasture-like here. Lots of elevation change, especially at the beginning and end of the course, add to gameplay and ambience. Really beautiful surroundings including a lovely creek. Dedicated to disc golf, the Pasture is secluded enough to feature wild deer during my round.

-Amenities: Still a young course, but the Pasture has most of the basics. Good concrete tees. Signage so far only has hole and par. Next tee signage was very good--I didn't consult a map my whole round. DISCatchers, though no practice basket.

-Shot Shaping/Gameplay: Very good for a woods course. Plenty of length, including several par 4's and one par 5. There are some tighter holes that are very demanding (I'm looking at you, 12), but on others the woods expand enough to air out real drives (like the down-then-up (5), meandering (8), and the longer-than-it-looks par 5 on (15)). There are no truly open holes, but the looser fairways on some of these give enough variety to make the Pasture work. There are straight plays, gently turning plays, and at least one dogleg both directions. There are some huge downhill shots (I love the 420 ft cascading downhill shot on (3)) and fighting uphill shots (prime example being (17), which offers both forehand and straight options with 40+ feet of elevation). Several split fairways (like (2) and (18)), and quite a few holes with a little bit of flexibility for shot selection. Fast greens with creeks behind make (7) and (13) more intimidating.

-Multi-Tees: Two full tees per hole. These give variety both in terms of different skill levels and in terms of different shot shapes from the tee. Clearly color-coded to avoid confusion (Green = long, red = short). The red tees make this course enjoyable for less-skilled players who would be suffering on the green tees.

-Scramble-ability: Most holes at Parker's Pasture offer you the chance to redeem a mildly bad tee shot if you have good chops for scrambling. In this way, it's unlike the tighter woods courses that only offer you a pitchout if your drive leaks off the fairway. UPDATE: After playing two more times, this is really only true on (1)-(7) and (16)-(18). The loop (8)-(14) and also (15) have scary rough.

Cons:

A few smaller things.

-Newness: The only place Parker's Pasture shows its newness is in the tee signage. The current signs only have par and distance, which required me to look down the fairway a couple of times, but really this is minor since I could catch a glimpse of most baskets from the tee. The Pasture deserves good maps with each sign, and I suspect those will be forthcoming once the designers have created some secondary pin placements. Also, from about (8) and on there was only a sign at one of the two tees for each hole, though I had no difficulty locating the other tee.

-Strange Holes: Holes (10)-(12) have some sketchy design. The lines are awkward, and I don't see how you could even get in the circle on (10) and (11). Hole (12) is a beautiful, very difficult hole requiring a flexing tunnel shot--with a property line about 3 feet off the fairway on the right. Upon 2nd and 3rd plays through Parker's Pasture, this stretch made me think twice about my 4.0, but I decided the course still deserves it despite the hiccup.

-Rough: The region (8)-(15) has some truly scary rough if you find yourself off the fairway. I guess I didn't find any of it my first playthrough, but after 3 times I'm painfully aware of its thickness.

-Woods: There are no truly open shots. This doesn't take much off of the Pasture at all, because there are generous fairways and scrambles here.

-Hills: Some very steep, terraced slopes make the Pasture a bit of a workout. They could use some stairs on the terraced holes, especially (3), transition from (4) to (5), (5), and (17).

Other Thoughts:

Parker's Pasture bears several similarities to another new Atlanta course, the Tracks at McDonough. I find the Pasture currently superior for good multi-tee placements, more breathable fairways, and the breathtaking elevation plays of (3) and (5). I highly recommended this excellent woods course for anyone who's comfortable throwing with trees in sight.

-No 9 & 9: Hole 9 finishes very far from parking. However, if you want an abbreviated round you could easily play (1)-(7) and then (15)-(18) for 11 holes, leaving out the loop of holes (8)-(14) on the other side of the creek.

-Navigation: Neither great nor terrible. As mentioned above, I didn't consult a map during my first round, but I also took the wrong path on a couple of hole transitions and realized within a couple hundred feet. Without maps, some of the longer holes may require tromping ahead to scout out.

Atlanta's Collection Grows Again 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 26, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Typical "southern half of metro Atlanta" layout has co-creator Kevin McCoy's fingerprints all over it, meaning intermediates, advanced and pros alike will enjoy a round in these picturesque woods just off the interstate! This course tests skills, creativity and patience, with multiple lines to choose from on many baskets, a forest of trees, generous-sized greens, and lots of variety in elevation and length. I appreciate how the same course can allow an intermediate player with limited shot-making skills the opportunity to make a number of birdies from the Red tees, while the Blue tees require a much wider range of skills and shots to navigate the same holes, with both birdies and bogeys to be had. i also like how the greens on the back nine get progressively harder to hold, with the long basket on hole 12 at least 450 feet away, a deep, wet creek running tight to the basket on 13 (I think), a severely fast green on 16, and another winding 450 footer leading up to 18. Two holes play a full 700 feet in length, adding to the variety and challenge.

Cons:

Some drainage issues exist, but don't impact shots that stay in the fairway. Don't count on distances listed on some of the signs at present (you'll have to figure out which ones, though).

Other Thoughts:

1) Multiple generously-sized tees, additional basket locations and good use of elevation are appreciated.
2) Less than 3 minutes off the I-20 exit in Covington is sweet for those passing through the area.
3) It's not easy to lose a disc (at least this winter).
4) Suitable for a variety of skill levels.

IMPORTANT: My rating is based on the course, layout, and location only. One day the amenities will probably include more than a parking lot and single port-a-potty (thinks like benches, more accurate distances on signs, a practice basket, perhaps some stairs, etc.). Until then you'll just have to enjoy the looks, shots, and results you can get right now.

Awesome Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 17, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Very fun wooded course with a lot of variety of shots
-Good mix of birdieable holes along with ones that are very tough to get
-Hole 3 is incredible!
-2 nice concrete tees on every hole
-Multiple par 4s and a 5 that each force a placement drive

Cons:

Not much to think of here, one of the most fun courses I can remember playing, was only open for a week before I played it so it could have been beaten down a lot more but that's not much of an issue
