Quiet 9 Holer 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 6, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

A nice little 9 holer that has a number of different lines to be played. You will find uphill drives, one booming (350 ft) downhill drive, and a number of doglegs (both directions) through the woods. There is a bit of water as there is a creek running through a couple of the holes. The baskets are Mach 3's and were better than I expected on a course like this.

In terms of the park itself, it is a nice quite state park, which the course takes only a small portion of. A couple of beautiful views, but mostly walking through the woods or hopping creeks.

Cons:

I arrived at 6:45am, and the park was closed. I parked on the shoulder of the driveway and played a round. When I left at 7:30, the park was still closed. So if you are planning an early morning round, it might be wise to figure out when the park opens.

Aside from that, there isn't a ton of parking for disc golf, but with it not being all that busy, parking wasn't an issue the first time I played.

Conditions-wise, the course has been soggy both times that I played. In the morning, the bugs weren't an issue, but when I was there in the afternoon, the bugs were pretty horrendous, so I recommend bringing bug spray. As others have mentioned, the rough is really nasty, and it seems that maintenance isn't a high priority, as some of the fairways had weeds 8-10 inches high.

Also, while the tee signs are in good shape, the course layout is not really clear, and even playing there the second time I found myself searching for a few "tee boxes".

Would love to see actual tee boxes put in place, as most of the tee areas have some incline or decline to them, which can make footing difficult.

Lastly, maybe this is just an annoyance thing for me, but where the last hole ends, you have to walk into the fairway of hole 4 to get back to your car. So be careful as you leave.

Update... In early parts of the year, the rough was difficult, but not impossible, but into the summer, it seems like the maintenance just lets parts go wild. If you throw a disc into the rough you can probably say goodbye to it. It seems like it is supposed to be an obstacle, but it is thick and untouched, beware.

Other Thoughts:

A nice little course in an area that doesn't have a whole lot in the way of disc golf courses. This is the closest course to me and it is a solid 30 minute drive. Would love to see more in the area, but for now, I will continue to play Pine Ridge when I need my DG fix.
