Good course for Advanced Beginners 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 17, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A nice little 9 hole course in a county park near Blairsville. I just started playing disc golf this Summer and I've played here at least 10 rounds. I see it as a good course for Beginners who want to improve their game.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the holes are shorter, so you don't need a strong arm (which is good for Beginners). However, the holes do provide technical challenges which give Beginners an opportunity to work on their skills. At this course you'll have uphill drives, downhill drives, dog legs (both directions), narrow fairways, out of bound areas, trees in fairways, and tight landings. It provides challenges for both right-handed and left-handed players and provides opportunities for hyzer & anhyzer throws.

Fairways are well mowed.

Signs at every tee.

Single tee position and single basket position, which to me is Beginner friendly.

Cons:

The tees are "natural". Even though there's a tee sign, it's hard to tell where the tee lines are. I know it's not common for 9 hole courses to have concrete tee boxes, but wooden tee lines in the ground would be an improvement.

The roughs are ROUGH, specifically holes 4 & 5.

Parking area is small.
No restrooms or water nearby. They do exist in the park, but you'll need to drive or walk down the service road from hole #2's tee.

Other Thoughts:

Pine Ridge Park is a quiet park with wildlife. I have seen deer & turkeys.

Here's a summary of the holes:
- Hole #1 - nice open hole to start your game & warm up. Basket up hill on your left
- Hole #2 - left dog leg with trees to circumnavigate in mid fairway.
- Hole #3 - tight downhill drive with O.B. road on left. tight landing near basket
- Hole #4 - longest hole & the only par 4 on course. right dog leg with a narrow fairway.
- Hole #5 - simple open hole with O.B road on left and rough on the right.
- Hole #6 - uphill drive with trees guarding the basket
- Hole #7 - trees in mid fairway; otherwise simple hole
- Hole #8 - open downhill drive. plenty of room for throwing a bomb.
- Hole #9 - left dog leg in woods that starts tight but opens up in mid fairway. Of course, there are trees in mid fairway to avoid.

It would be nice if they'd expanded this to 18 holes. There is room in the park. Perhaps the back 9 could have longer holes.

If Pine Ridge Park DGC is too simple or short for your liking, then head up to IUP College Park.
