Nice for locals 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 30, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

It is great for locals, not worth a long drive to get there. It has some challenging shots where if you miss the basket the disc can travel 30-40 yards down a hill.

Cons:

The course is not maintained as much as it should be, leaving long tall grass making fairways only as wide as a walking path on some shots.

Other Thoughts:

Only 9 holes, but there are alternate tee locations for a back 9. However, they are not clearly marked and it can have you throwing blindly right at some other players.

The Prewett Park DGC Plays Up On A Large Windswept Hill! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 26, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

High up above the Prewett Park Community Center, which incidentally looks to be the biggest fanciest rec center anywhere, is the newly constructed Prewett Park Disc Golf Course. From the top, you are looking down across the street at a high school with views of Mt. Diablo.

This course plays up and then down this bare, windswept hillside. This is not a tree anywhere. I played in January when the sticky bushes and grasses were mostly dormant and also, the hard working locals might have removed many of those.

The baskets are new Discatchers with numbers and a big clear arrow pointing to the next hole. These were very helpful! Tee pads are a combo between sidewalks and rubber mats. The rubber mats are nice and level. The first few holes play up the hillside. # 1 plays up two switchbacks. The # 2 basket is perched on the edge of the hill. You don't want to drift right on this hole. It's quite a ways down. The # 3 basket is barely visible over a slight rise. # 4 is 327' and sits on a steep, sloping hillside. Once again, you don't want to hyser downhill. The # 5 basket is pretty off the tee. The basket is silhouetted against the skyline but is also right on the edge of the slope. So it's both beautiful and deadly at the same time. # 6 has an interesting fence on your right. It's a barbwire fence without any barb wire.

#7 is a 585' Top of the World shot. It's an epic fun throw. I felt it made the course enjoyable and slightly removable. # 8 was a 327' hole playing back to where I parked my car. And then there is # 9. It's a 271' uphill hole that I looked at and then determined that I was closer to my car from the # 8 basket and it wasn't worth the exertion to actually play it. I'd rather just tell you all about it. You can climb the hill.

Cons:

Wind.

Brush might be ugly during other times if the year.

Some treacherous rollaway possibilities.

Other than # 7, mostly forgettable.

Other Thoughts:

This course just doesn't seem to wow people and I think I might have been lucky enough to played here during the perfect time of the year. The views are stunning. # 7 is just about a deeply religious experience but the other holes are just so so. I will be generous and award it a 2.5, but I'm only being so kind because of # 7.

Prewett Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 16, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Great location and plenty of parking
Course is easy to find from parking lot and visible as you drive in.
A course map is located at Tee 1 and pretty easy to figure out as you go along.
Still in the early stages of development but, playable and has the potential to be a very great course in the future. Layout of course is nice, with the hike around course being moderate and gradual.
The Top of World shot on hole 7 is will be a great attraction for big arm throwers with amazing views of the surrounding hillsides and Mt. Diablo.
Thursdays Nights they have Food Trucks that gather in the parking lot there too.

Cons:

-Still in early stages of development
clearing of stickers and roughage is ongoing
-NO SHADE - BRING YOUR SUNCREEN
-currently a lot of stickers, deep patches around most holes - recommend hiking boots and pants
-The orange colored roughage by basket 7 is wicked and will swallow a disc. Looks flat, but it isn't.
-recommend using BRIGHT colored discs to contrast against the golden color of the hillside.
- on Hole 7, a spotter is very helpful. Lower Spin rated discs will only go so far, stop spinning, then turn back into the hillside.
-Can get Windy

Other Thoughts:

Looking forward to seeing the development of the course and hope to see it become a great course to play regularly.

I do feel at the current stage that course is in, being an accurate thrower is a benefit. Not really a beginner course. Course has nice placement for some big throws(besides Hole 7), but if your disc goes astray - it could go in some deep patches of stickers.
Play cautiously the first few times around.(Unless you like losing discs and/or foraging through stickers)
Giving it a 2.5 difficulty rating for throwing with the existing natural obstacles.
Holes 5, 6, and 8 great Ace attempt shots.
Hole 7 Top of the World shot is great if you have a spotter. Recommend using discs with higher spin rates to get your disc to travel out far enough and not land back on side of the hill.

Come out and try it, it will only keep getting better as the work continues and the word spreads.

Good Potential 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good varying distances
Challenging elevation changes on most holes
Amazing "Top of the World" style shot on 7

Cons:

Way way way too many weeds still
Newer course - no permanent tee pads or tee signs yet
Lots of wind!

Other Thoughts:

Overall, once this course is established I think it has a ton of potential to be a popular course in the East Bay. Great mixed difficulty shots and awesome huge downhill shot.
