Worth the hike. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 22, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Two baskets per hole. Half of the holes have 2tees, so lots of variety. Paver tee pads are in good condition. Baskets in great condition. Very scenic views of city & lake. Unique holes in quarry setting.

Cons:

Navigation is confusing but quick to learn. Terrain is difficult with fairways over broken rocks. While I found the walks between holes interesting some might find it too strenuous. When I played it, it was very overgrown which made it difficult to find disc in the fairway. Some holes short to short are too simple.

Other Thoughts:

Very fun course, but if you're not up for a hike I don't recommend this course. If you are up for it, you'll find some interesting and challenging holes.

Promising New Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Fun new course plays in and around a unique former quarry setting

Easy access in Duluth, free, open to public

In an isolated unmaintainded wooded/former quarry area so so no interfernce from other park users. There are a few rustic walking trails that cross the area.

Paver tee pads new Prodigy baskets, Two basket sets for all holes. A couple of the tee pads were still under construction.

Plays through heavily wooded areas and areas with thick underbrush and long grass, but the fairways and basket areas were nicely cleared when I played with good clear lines to throw. It will be a lot of work to maintain this course, but in decent shape now.

Great variety of technical shots, long bomb fairways, really cool lookng holes, and tough basket placements. Fun and challenging course for intermediate to advanced players with alternate longer and tougher basket locations on all holes for really good players.

Spectacular views from holes along top of quarry wall.

Cons:

Located in an isolated unmaintained area so all fairways are closely bordered by thick woods and underbrush making it difficult to find discs thrown way off line on all holes. Expect to do a little bushwhacking through thick underbrush as needed to find disc, but fairways and trails between holes were nicely cleared and most fairways are reasonably wide.

No signs or trail markers. Will need a guide or map the first time playing. I somehow found my way around the first time but with a lot of guessing and extra walking. Layout and paths between holes are good once figured out. Very long walk on small foot path that climbs up to top of quarry between 5 and 6 (5 min. walk).

Good footwear is a necessisty. Lots of rugged rocky terrain. Ground along entire fairways for #s 3 and 4 is covered chunks of quarry rock making footing very difficult. These are longer holes requiring fairway shots. Rugged terrain and walking not a con for me personally, but this is something to be aware of.

Other Thoughts:

Course is still very new so lots more work still needed to get it into great playing shape (signs, trail clearing, completion of tee pads, clearing of fairway basket areas). Thanks to the volunteers that have already put in a ton of work to get this course started. I am looking forward to playing this fun course again soon and am excited to see how it turns out with more development work and player use.
