Love this course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 14, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Took up this sport during Covid -- introduced to it by my step son in Austin.

Hard to believe THIS course has been in my back yard for nearly 20 years!

It's only now after I've played over 2 dozen "other" courses that I can appreciate just how great this course is...

Gorgeous, wooded layout.

Loads of unique holes -- several are cookie cutter but for the most part, a great variety of challenges. You will need both your forehand and backhand!!!

I've evolved from barely being able to toss 100' with accuracy to now over 250' and even so -- hole 4 is still a beast! Good luck parring it! (I've parred twice in about 150 rounds -- and I've lost on net about 10 discs, a figure lowered by the unsigned discs found while searching).

Just about every hole here has a secret... Like hole 15 can be a birdie every time if you fire a Sheriff down the tunnel on the right; hole 3 can be birdied with a Saint thrown with a slight hyzer.

(I won't share what I've learned about hole 11 -- that's my secret.)

Cons:

You cannot park at the course entrance due to HOA restrictions/passes. But it's an easy walk in either from the spots by the bridge (bring your 4x4) or there's a parking lot on the right well before reaching the bridge.

Other Thoughts:

Warm days bring bug spray!

Nature lovers -- like my botanist wife -- expect to see all sorts of birds (especially woodpeckers), flowers, fungus, mushrooms and SPIDERS!!!

Shout out to the volunteers who take care of this place! Know this, I always leave with more trash than I brought in. (We pick up all litter we can.)

Great home base 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 13, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Challenging! Lots of tricky situations and risks.

Cons:

Lots of sticker bushes...I carry my machete.

I've lost 2 discs...inexplicably... I mean...I know where they landed it's just the brush is so thick!

(But on the plus side I've found at least a dozen discs without names; have returned a handful with numbers.

Short but Tough 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 18, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Recognizing that this course was completely underwater and unplayable for a few months after Hurricane Harvey, this course really seemed to be in good condition. The baskets were all present, the tee signs were mostly all present and only a few tee pads were missing.

Looking at the pictures of the course from 2008, the course seems to be a bit easier as the fairways seem to be wider and a little bit more fair. Every hole out here needs a technical shot, nothing is over 400', and the average hole length clocks in at about 275'. Though the holes are short, and the fairways are a bit wider, this is still a very tough course to shoot well on if you are not used to wooded holes, and being in Houston you might not be used to it. This is one of the courses that you an shoot really well one day, and really poorly the next. It keeps bringing you back.

Being a private course, I do not believe it gets too much play. Though being private, it is still very easy to go in and play, just follow the instructions on this course's page.

Cons:

Nothing really stands out to me that make this course awesome. All of the holes kind of blended together because they were all the same type of shot: a shorter hole with trees litering the fairway and both sides of it.

I felt some of the lines were a bit unfair. A lot of the holes had 90 degree turns in the fairways, which are lines that most golf discs can't make. A couple of the holes also had questionable random trees in the middle of the fairway that made the drive more luck than skill.

This is definitely a course that is better the second time playing through. A lot of the holes had baskets that were hidden, so you might need to take a couple extra seconds to walk up the fairway to see where you are shooting at.

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed the course, all in all. It is not my favorite in the Houston area; it doesn't really suit my game too well, but it still gave a challenge that is missing in the Houston area, a course that is wooded and technical on every hole. I feel that it is the step child of Texas Army Trail.

Heed the warnings of the towing if you are parked in the lot as a non resident. It is still a very easy course to go play, just park by the bridge and take the short walk to hole 12 and start there.

Great setup. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 26, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

After you find the first tee this course is VERY easy to navigate. Nice cement tee boxes with plenty of room. Hole# and distance written on rocks next to tee box. Great short range and technical shots. Intermediate course. Very hard to lose a disc. Water did not come into play.

Cons:

If you have a cooler make sure you got some big wheels or you'll be dragging pine needles the whole time. Not much need for drivers. Few scattered trash cans which are very small and overflow at times.

Other Thoughts:

If you do not have a kingwood resident sticker you WILL be towed if you park inside parking lot. You can still play here, but you must park on the side of the road before gate entrance to park. I spoke with the tow dude and he said parking there is absolutely OK. He has no remorse for people who park in parking lot though. You've been warned!

Great, technical, short course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 22, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

great little 18 holes in the woods. Going to suit the conservative type player, as its high risk rewards. There are trees scattered all over the fairways, great for you mid-range lovers. used every mid and putter I had, very little use for my drivers on this one. but you will have to pull out every shot you got. I like the feeling of the course as there are no signs of city life anywhere.

Also, this course has some of the biggest and nicest teepads as anywhere else I've played. signs were decent with the distance to the hole displayed on a rock. Nice practice basket in the front and a huge map of the entrie course. Also the baskets are in great shape. Traffic is pretty good, seems like more kids than anything play here.

Cons:

I kind of wish the holes we're longer, I don't think there is a hole longer than 325. Dont ever get to pull my drivers out except for hole 6, and even then, it's really not needed. baskets can be hard to find, if its your first time here, there will be a few times you have to leave the teepad and go scope out where the basket is. Worst thing I've noticed about this course are the mosquitoes. They are unreal, especially after it rains. BRING OFF!!! Also after normal rain, standing water will remain for atleast a week.

Other Thoughts:

Nice course, There are deffinitely better courses on the north side of houston, but if your in the area stop by a check this one out, its a quick 18. Will deffinitely improve your approaches and up shots. Beginners might want to bring a chainsaw =)

Love this course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 6, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a fun course that is very technically challenging. For those people who enjoy trying to shape their shots and don't mind the frustration of hitting trees this is a must play course. This was actually my very first course to play (as some has suggested - not a good idea) and although I was initially pretty frustrated - it kept drawing me back. They've now made a number of improvements to the course - especially on Number 5 which is now very playable.

Cons:

This is certainly not a course for beginners as many have mentioned. I still consider myself to be a novice and it can be very frustrating at times. There are also lots of bugs - mosquitos and spiders (and contrary to other reviews - they are Golden Silk spiders (harmless) - not Banana spiders. They are huge though so you will eat a lot of webs. Just remember to swing your disc up and down when going between the trees and you'll be fine. Lots of standing water after rains as well.

Other Thoughts:

I've played this course close to 25 times now and it just keeps getting better and better. I've also played McGregor and Tom Bass (the championship course) and I'll take this one over those anyday. Way more fun trying to truly plan your approach to the baskets. Give it a try really and just try and stay patient. You will hit trees but there are rewards to those who can control their shots. Par feels so good!!!
