Good beginner course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 3, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Easy course to play, back 9 has some interesting holes. Hard to lose discs here. Good park to bring beginners to for an introduction to the game.

Cons:

Can be lots of other park users who don't all care for disc golf.

Confusing layout with some challenges 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Some nice holes in this tight little layout. Some challenges some gimmes. Overall fun and a good walk

Cons:

Signs missing, pedestrian traffic, picnickers. Got confusing finding some holes.

Other Thoughts:

I'm told the layout is reduced when the zoo is open, that's when we played.

Short and Sweet 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 18, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great to have an accessible (free) and well groomed albeit smaller frolf course in this "remote" town with a posted population of just 74,000. A clearly marked course. Asphalt tee pads. Well groomed city park. Just 15 minutes from downtown Peterborough area. Especially encouraging layout for newer player: Potential for a rookie's first Ace and abundant birdies. Frolfing inside a city park can be a pain but only light pedestrian traffic here at holes 1 through 3. Holes 4 through 9 no pedestrians. Elevation changes on 3 holes (6 through 8). Hole 6 is uphill, 7 is across a mini valley with the potential to overshoot into brush and woods. Hole 8 dynamic with challenging launch position and with distinct risk of sinking in the river if over-hyzered. Baskets 3 and 9 require shooting a tree gap. Beautiful setting alongside (Trent?) River with abundant wildlife - saw great blue herons, ospreys diving for fish. Highly recommended glowie park: abundant bats and fireflies under milky way after dark.

Cons:

Smaller course with just 9 holes and all but 2 holes very short. 4 holes provide minimal challenge (1, 2, 4, 6). 1 hole only moderately challenging (7). Only 2 holes present technical challenge (3 and 9). Only 2 holes present distance challenge (5 and 8). Holes are all marked as par 4 or par 5 when all should be marked par 3. Baskets are 12 outer chain/6 inner chain and must be an older model: discs slip through the bottom of the basket or just bounce out. Only one tee location per hole. Only one basket location per hole. Only Centennial's tee signs are uglier. Course design flaw: baskets of holes 5 and 8 very close together. Asphalt tee pads slippery when wet.

Other Thoughts:

Local Directions: In Peterborough, follow Zoo signs to Water St. North, course is on east side of Water St., just beyond zoo. On east side of Water Street and runs alongside the Trent River. Inside the "Riverview Zoo and Park" in northern part of Peterborough just 300 metres north of the Peterborough Zoo. 1230 Water Street, Peterborough, Ontario K9H. Drive into small parking lot, Hole #1 at south side of parking lot, just on other side of swinging gate. All holes well marked.
A local player has suggested an alternative series of throws to make up a creative back nine:
Peterborough Back 9 (10 through 18):
10. Tee 1 to Basket 4
11. Tee 5 to Basket 2
12. Tee 3 to Basket 1
13. Tee 2 to Basket 3
14. Tee 4 to Basket 9
15. Tee 2 to Basket 5
16. Tee 9 to Basket 7
17. Tee 8 to Basket 6
18. Tee 7 to Basket 8
