As I drove up to Riverview Park, I honestly wasn't expecting great things. The park is kind of a narrow, semi-odd shaped park. The parking lot, play area, restrooms and picnic shelter are all in the upper area. There is a soccer field down from the parking area. But where is the disc golf course?

I finally figured out (I think) that # 1 plays 264' downhill from the corner of the parking lot to a basket tucked into the trees. The baskets here are yellow Discatchers which show up well in the woods. The tee pads are natural w/gravel. They aren't ideal but little run up is needed on this short course. The tee signs are excellent, brightly colored under Plexiglas.

# 2 plays 252' up a small hill. # 3 is a slightly downhill, anhyser 225' through a small window. # 4 is a cool 180' downhill Ace run but the tee pad is pretty poor. # 5 is a technical, very short 138' anhyser throw. Be careful on # 6 the sign on this 147' shows the basket on right when it's actually a hyser shot. I think I have that hyser versus anhyser correct on # 6? Might be the other way? # 7 is 246' into a small gap in the trees. # 8 is another cool little 141' downhill Ace run and # 9 plays 198' down a tight little path with a right turn.

Everyone concurs that the natural-gravel tee pads are the weak link here.

Beginner/Recreational distance and challenge. Don't need no drivers here.

This was my fifth course I played today and Riverview was by far, the most fun. Yes, it's just a little beginner course but the throws are fun, the design is superb, the hilly terrain is conducive to fun disc golf and the amenities are good. Riverview Park is an easy 10 mile/15 minute drive from the airport making this an easy get if you have a layover in KC.

Riverview Park in Platte City is a fun 9 hole course in a nice park. There is plenty of elevation change, and the woods get pretty thick on a few holes. All of the holes are pretty short, with a total distance under 1800'.

The tees are gravel, and most have signs. The yellow bands on the Discatcher baskets are easy to spot in the woods, when there is a clear line of sight.

All of the holes are reachable, but the pins are usually protected by trees on one or more sides. This would be a fun course for a new player to learn techniques and fundamental throws without getting to frustrated.

Hole 1 is a good downhill run from the corner of the parking lot to a pocket in the trees by the soccer field.
Hole 2 throws back uphill with lots of open air on the right side and mature trees on the left.
Hole 3 is downhill again, with a few large trees that can knock you down if you stray too far from the center of the fairway. Similar to 1, but shorter and not as steep.
Hole 4 is comparatively flat, with a couple of big trees on the side of the fairway leading to a well protected basket a few paces into the woods.
Hole 5 enters the heavily wooded area, and is a slightly downhill tunnel shot. If you over shoot the pin the comeback may be a tough out.
Hole 6 is a short hole but the target is not visible, and it is a high window into a twisty approach. It takes a good flexing turnover, or maybe a thumber, get creative.
Hole 7 is downhill a bit, and has several mature trees that block the most direct route. You can throw a RHBH hyzer to the right to get around, but there is a risk of landing across the fence on the baseball field.
Hole 8 is back into the thick woods, downhill. A lot like 5, but a little steeper and a bit more airspace.
Hole 9 is the toughest hole in my opinion, still in the woods and uphill. The fairway has a tricky bend, and there are branches all over waiting to take you down.

The gravel tees are not the most level and have room for improvement. The link to the course map shows a nice Houck design illustration, but I didn't see it at the course. It could be next to the playground, but you may want to do a screen grab or print one. There is not a sign posted for hole 1, but it is the corner of the parking lot, marked with spray paint.

Pros will not be amused with this course. It could be an easy 7 or 8 under for someone who is deadly accurate.

The course that I have played more than any other was Riverview Park in North Augusta, SC. When I saw that there was a Riverview close to where I live now, I knew I would have to check it out eventually. It was like the Mini Me of my old home course. Good mix of open and wooded with nice elevation changes.

It starts and ends strong, 1 and 9 were my favorite holes. I was only 1 under par, with birdies on holes 4 and 6, and a bogey on 9. Next time I drop off or pick up someone at the airport perhaps I will go back and try to improve on that.
