Decent City Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Concrete Tees
-Decent Baskets
-OK layout
-Signage OK
-Decent park upkeep

Cons:

-Only one bench (at Tee #1)
-Play around a campground, comes into play on #3, #4 and #9
-Mostly flat, not much for trees for interest

Other Thoughts:

Rockford Public DGC is located around the Wyatt Park Campground near the banks of the Shell Rock River in Rockford, IA. A typical city park course with the DGA "Peel n Stick" signage, but that was in decent shape here. Water only sort of in play way behind #1 and along the right side of #2 and #3. Play is mostly straightforward with a few trees. #5 is the only hole with any distance (at 460'). The park was in good shape with some trash cans around to help keep it clean. Adding some better signage and a better map (the only one I found was near the tee for Hole #7 would add to the rating. A typical city park course that is a quick play for 9 holes. Not a destination, but if you're in the area, decent to play. I would play again.

Sandwiched between the river and campground 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 29, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Concrete tees
- Decent baskets
- View of the Shell Rock River

Cons:

- Quite flat
- Few trees
- Some park roads and parking come into play

Other Thoughts:

The course is located on the banks of the Shell Rock River. The park is shared by the Wyatt Park Campground and the course runs between the campground and the river. This can cause a minor conflict from people strolling between their campsites to the river. During my visit, on Memorial Day, there was overflow parking near the #4 basket. This is probably not an issue during times that aren't busy holidays.

It's a flat course with scattered trees and, while the river is close, it really doesn't come into play. Overall, it's a decent little 9 with a good variety of hole distances and shot shapes.
