Now that’s good Living (Memorial Park)

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 29, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a lovely course with a nice mix of hole types, good variation in distances, and plenty of elevation in play. Most of the course is set in mature hilly woods, but the four largely open holes on the ski hill offer a nice contrast. I particularly enjoyed the wooded holes, which offered fair fairways while still requiring accuracy and line shaping to score birdies. The wooded back nine featured some of the most challenging holes along with a lovely sense of isolation in nature.

Three sets of tees make the course suitable for a wide range of skills. The short tees are quite short, with plenty of technical ace run opportunities. Many of the long tees are not particularly long but offer a respectable challenge. Hole distances range from less than 150' to more than 500', so there are a few long holes that test your arm.

Yellow-banded baskets, one per hole, are easy to spot among the trees, well mounted, and caught nicely. Good turf pads have been installed on the long tees (but see cons). Oddly, the long tee is "A" and the short tee is "C". A little confusing at first but one adapts.

Informative tees signs at the long tee include a hole map showing all three tee locations, suggested flight lines and distances from each tee, and hole par. Benches throughout the course.

Easy navigation, with plenty of next tee signs installed throughout the course. It almost seems like someone ordered too many "next tee" signs and decided, "Oh what the heck, let's use them all." No complaints from me.

Indoor bathroom at the shelter near the hole 8 tee and elsewhere at the facility. Water fountain and trash cans near the dog park and skate park, a short detour between holes 5 and 6. Sturdy footbridges have been installed as needed to cross gullies and boggy areas.

Cons:

Poison ivy is prevalent on the fringes of the open holes. Watch out for a sea of poison ivy if you overthrow the basket on hole 8, which is short but steeply downhill.

Long tees are nicely constructed artificial turf, but the short and middle tees are quite small with a surface of dirt and mulch boxed in by logs. In most cases hole distances from the short tees were short enough that I was able to throw standstill without issue.

Hills and gullies provide quite a workout, with some steep spots that could be tricky if wet. Not really a con to me, but I mention it to be fair.

Some holes on the front nine may not be playable when the ski lift is in operation.

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed this course very much. Even though the course length is only around 5,400' from the long tees, a few challenging par 4 holes and a 546' downhill par 3 offer variety. Enjoy the beautiful views from the top of the ski hill.

If the middle tees were upgraded to turf or concrete, I could see bumping this course up a half point.

good ski slope course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 4, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Several challenging shot shaping holes. Not entirely in the open space of the slope. From the long tees, all pars feel well earned and boogies deserved. The course map that you can carry does a good job showing where you could roughly find tees. Long tees have been turfed.

Cons:

For a ski slope course, no real "throw down there mountain" hole feels like a missed opportunity. Several holes feel a lot like poke and hope shots even when you have a good throw. Even the long tees that have been turfed are uneven.

Other Thoughts:

Overall I like this course. It was fun to play and even though good shots were periodically punished by tree filled fairways, it feels rewarding enough to get birdies when you could.
