Home Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 18, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Well maintained. Most holes have two teepads, which are concrete and plenty long. All holes have multiple basket placements that are regularly moved. This creates lots of variety. Good use of elevation changes, trees, and creeks to create a fun park-style course.

Cons:

This is the most popular course in Omaha and can get quite busy. Not uncommon to see groups of 6+ beginners on a nice summer evening. When the weather is good, this course is slow. Also of note, some of the basket locations can be relatively hard to locate depending on what positions they're in that day.

Other Thoughts:

I consider this my home course since it's closest to where I live and is the place I play the most frequently. While I really enjoy it, there are other courses in the Omaha metro area that are better. If passing through Omaha and only able to play a course or two, my recommendations are Hummel and Treasure Cove.

pretty alright!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 17, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

nice course. moderate elevation changes, decent trees to play around. nothing tricky to it. fun.
Pretty much the best tee pads possible!!!

Cons:

REALLY busy.

Course is TIRED and could use a major refresher. New baskets and new signs would make a world of difference.

Not terribly easy to find the next hole.

A lot of random tee pads that not sure which hole they lead to.

Other Thoughts:

the people on the course were very nice and helpful. couldnt be more thankful for the courtesy of letting me play through and then join a group a few holes later.
after playing i bunch more and getting more familiar with it, i bumped up my review. it desperately needs new signage and baskets, but, the layout is retty good and fun.

A Nice Course in the Heart of the City 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 28, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The park is quite beautiful and has a far mix of elevation and mature trees lining the fairways, as well as one large dried out creek bed to cross (it isn't really in play, and it is more than a 60 foot drop to the bottom, which you will only hit if you over drive some of the later holes that go toward it). The holes are well designed to take advantage of the trees, and there are some short uphill holes in my midrange distance that I couldn't reach with my driver (one with an exceptionally well guarded green).

The signs and maps are excellent, there are local leagues, and there is even a disc vending machine on the premises.

Cons:

Hole 12 is nightmarishly long and poorly designed, coming into close proximity to a previous basket.

It's very busy almost all the time, and it borders on two of the busiest roads in the city, which is bothersome on holes 2, 7, 8, and 9 (the rest of the park offers a buffer for the rest of the holes).

Other Thoughts:

It's an enormous multi-use park with a nice bike path wending through it, and there are two paved wheelchair softball diamonds that are worth seeing because this city has produced multiple national champion wheelchair softball teams!

Great place.

Learner Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 15, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Cement tee pads. Elevation changes. Lots of trees and nice shade for the summer. Very easy course but still can be a little challenging.

Cons:

To many people on the weekends. You have to go on a weekday and as early as possible. To many huckers!

Other Thoughts:

It could be a little better, it was rather easy. Lots of stuff to do in the park for the whole family. A must play for anyone who has never played, just do go on the weekends.

Home Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 18, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Wide open with a little terrain. Nice cement tee pads. multiple placement for baskets and 2 tee placements at every hole

Cons:

crowded on weekends with casual players. some let you play through while some just do not understand that they have 8 and there is only two in your group.

Other Thoughts:

Great course for beginners and advnaced the like. when the baskets are changed in the summer almost weekly it is like a new course.

Everyone can enjoy 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 29, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very well marked and laid out is all through out the park. All levels of experience will enjoy this course. Everyone I talked to on the course was friendly and helped with locating my disk covered in leaves. Good elevation changes but easy to keep track of your disk. Multiple disk basket locations for all holes to keep the course ever changing.

Cons:

I have played it once during the weekend and it was crowded. Three times I played it during the week and much better. Still always had other golfers, but not hard to play straight through. Some of the course benches could use repairs and the vandals need to stay away.

Other Thoughts:

It is a great time and try to stick to weekdays if you hate crowds.

What is the deal with taking out all the trees, the third hole is ruined now. The course has become just a boring open field with few trees. Then they block the only bridge to cross the stream and make it dangerous to play. I really hope something is fixed soon. Maybe this is a ploy to get people to stop playing the course, if so it is working!

Seymour Smith 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 10, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fun Layout... Seymour offers a pretty fun round of golf. The course winds its way around a tree-filled park with some minor elevation. Pretty standard park golf, many holes are similar with some sort of slight elevation change and trees to contend with. A small creek comes into play on a handful of holes, but nothing too major. It is easy to navigate without a map.

Alternate Tees... One thing I really liked about Seymour is the fact that it has an alternate tee for every hole. The course is fun but not all THAT challenging to an experienced golfer. So beginning players on up to intermediate will enjoy the shorter pads, while advanced and pro golfers will have more fun on the longer pads. The longer pads to add a significant challenge and alters the approach you take to several of the holes.

Park Atmosphere... Seymour Smith is a nice city park. There is some very nice playground equipment, a nice softball facility, a large skate park and a shooting range. Plenty of parking is available. It is also located at a big intersection, so it isn't too hard to find. There are restrooms at the park and food/beverage close by.

Cons:

Playing Atmosphere... This is an extremely busy course. Up until very recently it was the only legit full length disc golf course in Omaha, a metro area with over 835,000 people. While there are now more options in the area, they are still somewhat unknown outside the hardcore golfers. The vast majority of people playing here will be of the rec-1-2 disc-200 ft drive variety. There is often a line to start at the first tee. I usually skip ahead a few holes and slip in front of a slow group. Speaking of groups, I've seen huge groups of 10-20 people playing here before... can take a long time to get a round in. Lots of smokin' and drinkin' going on. I can't say I've seen anywhere else with as many people carrying/pulling coolers full of beer as they play. If possible, play the course during a week-day in the morning for a quiet round. afternoons/evenings and weekends it is crazy.

Vandalism... This course isn't in a bad part of town, but there is a lot of vandalism present. Several tee pads and signs have graffiti on them, and beer cans/bottles can be found easily. The local club has had problems with basket vandalizing as well in this park.

Wear & Tear... this is an older course and as busy as it is, the course is wearing down. some fairways have little grass left from all the people walking down them, and grass is worn away from several of the basket locations. This causes it to get muddy if it rains or snows. Tee signs and pars are outdated, and some pads and baskets are getting worn out.

Other Thoughts:

This course is worth a trip to play, just plan on a long round if it is a nice day or the weekend. If it is crazy busy when you pull into the parking lot, consider hitting up Aspen Park, a small 9 hole course just down the road that is almost always quiet. Seymour is a fun course despite waiting at tees and a worn-out feel, a solid course for all skill-levels.

Pros:

Cement starting tees always nice, grounds well maintained. Good elevation with a creek. Nice big trees. Long and short holes for some good hole in ones.

Cons:

WAY TO BUSY ALL THE TIME. Lot of people who think they can play but just clog things up for the good players.

Other Thoughts:

If you can go early in the morning or when the kids are in school it is much more enjoyable.

Lots of elevation change, and a very pretty well taken care of park. I thought most of the holes were wide open, which at the time I was not used to....but it was nice.

Cons:

Almost too wide open in areas. Close to center city, lots of traffic and people in the park

Other Thoughts:

Pros:

Beautiful course, some interesting shots such as number 3 over the trees in the ravine.

Cons:

Par ratings are too high. Rarely over 400 feet, yet some are "Par 5" on the sign.

Other Thoughts:

The multiple concrete tees were a little confusing at first, just look for the ones with the signs next to them to see which ones are in use, or just follow everyone else.
