Pros:
Fairly typical park course located in a fairly cool city park in southwest Bakersfield. The 14 acre park features a pavilion, a 25 yard swimming pool with a small wading pool, multi-purpose room, stage, lighted tennis courts, horseshoe pits, par exercise course, two play areas, multi-use sports field, and two large picnic areas. The pavilion area is very cool with a fully shaded basketball court that can be played regardless of weather. The park also has water fountains and restrooms. There were several other disc golfers out here playing when we were here, with some doing field work in the main field, so it seems like you'd have plenty of company. The course has nice new DGA baskets and the average fiberglass tee signs. Holes ranged from about 175 feet to 350 feet in length. The first 5 holes play through large trees, exercise areas, and light poles making for some interesting obstacles. The park seems to be very well maintained landscaping and litter wise, but you can see graffiti and vandalism throughout the park.
Cons:
Very busy park with a lot of other activities in play. The first five holes follow the jogging trail around the park and it gets quite busy. The park is adjacent to a school with lots of little rugrats running around. Didn't help playground was undergoing renovation when we were there, and hole 7s tee was behind a chainlink fence. We simply teed from in front of the fence on the grass. The course is perfectly flat with many holes having very little obstacle.
Other Thoughts:
The truth is I think I liked the park better than the disc golf course. This park seems to have everything from disc golf to swimming to a year round basketball court. This park is just too busy for the disc golf to be an enjoyable round unless as others have mentioned you get here on off hours or figure out the best times. When we were there, there was someone picnicking at a bench about halfway from hole 1s tee to the basket. It seemed a very odd place for a picnic area, or perhaps an odd place for a disc golf hole. Other holes played around the exercise areas forcing carries a few times as we played. There are 18 dual tees with 9 being the original concrete tees, and the other 9 being marked spots on the sidewalks. All in all we ended up playing about 14 holes per round and carrying about 4 per round. We never were able to play hole 1, but I think we did manage every other hole. If you did manage to get out here and play when no one else was present I could see this being a fun round, but you're probably going to have to be a local to know when that is.
