Southwest Baptist University Offers Two Disc Golf Courses! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 11, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beside the smaller Bearcat DGC, the university has a full 18 hole course. There is a wonderful big course map sign at the start. It's the same as the on-line version. The tee signs are excellent and show the next tee arrows. The baskets are Discatchers with the numbers. The tee pads are natural.

This is really an excellent piece of proper for a course. It's open in places and a creek runs throughout the course. It comes into play numerous time and you will to cross it on bridges both safe and scary. There are no steep hills but plenty of gentle roll.

# 1 is a little 240' hyser throw around the bushy area. There is a shorter direct route but it looks like a sucker bet to me. # 2 is a throw up a small hill with only the top of the basket showing. # 3 has a Mando between two trees. # 10 plays 380' down a fairway that tapers as you get closer to the basket. 12 is 305' with the basket on the far side of the creek. # 13 is a long, 485' to a basket around the building. There are a couple of holes requiring a low tunnel shot off the tee.

Cons:

# 8 gets my vote as the Chi Omega Sorority and Gentlemen's Club (46 foxy semi-Christian girls and $5 lap dances during finals week) insomnia killing, boring hole of the week award. ZZZZZZ. It's 385' across the wide open expanse of lawn with nothing but green grass in your way.

The next hole is also a contender the Chi O's nomination for most boring hole. # 9 is 440' and almost as open.

# 5 tees off from a marshy area. There is a wooden tee box built there. This area could definitely be wet.

After one hole, you needed to cross the creek and the crossing was fairly dicey.

No drinking. OK.

No smoking. OK.

NO SWEARING. WTF !!! I can't function under these overly restrictive conditions

Other Thoughts:

With two courses to choose from, students at Southwest Baptist University have more disc golfing choices than some players in rural areas. I like that players can play the easy rec course or anyone is serious about their disc golf can challenge the main course here. They welcome the community to play their course which is nice as it is a community treasure and should be shared. Just remember to follow their rules, apologize for The Valkyrie Kid's offensive language and pack out your trash.
