Other Thoughts:

Southwoods DGC plays in Southwoods Park located just south of the Law Enforcement Center is the middle of West Des Moines, IA. 2 new holes with a redesign on a couple more and a new start point gives this course a better flow than the old set-up. A good mix of open / wooded holes allows for work on tight lines and boomers. The now #3 booms down a large hill and the now #7 booms almost 900' from the back tee. Tight lines on #2, 5, 6 and 8 make you work for a straight shot to stay out of or around the trees. The is still a very hilly course, be prepared. This is why it could use some benches for us old folks. The new signage is excellent, noting only a missing sign on the #8 short tee, but that doesn't affect much. Around the stops to catch your breath, the round is pretty quick. This is a great course to work on many aspects of your game. A nice risk/reward on #7 of a moderate canyon with a creek makes you decide to lay up or boom across. Changes were made just last year, so some of the new tee pads will take a season or two to not be muddy around. A few of the existing holes have either been redesigned slightly to add another pin placement or a second tee pad. Overall, new start, 2 new holes, and 4 redesigned holes makes a better flow and a better course. I enjoyed my round and will probably play again.
