Quick & Short 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 13, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is the course you play when you need a quick nine holes. It's typically not very busy, and you've got just (and I mean just) enough trees to make things interesting. If you like a short course and only mildly technical - than this is your place.

I have been out of the DG scene for a while, but this is the course I'm using to dip my toes back in the water - so in that regard - it's great. There is no water, and it's the perfect pitch and putt to wipe off the cobwebs.

I love the little stretch in the trees with holes #5-#8. You feel like #5 should be an ace off the tee every time, and #7 and #8 make you shape the shot just enough that a poor throw off the tee could mean a bogey.

BEST HOLE/S: #7

Cons:

If you are looking to for a challenge or longer throws off the tee - go to Texas Army Trail down the road. #3 is the longest tee at #350 feet. Let me reiterate that if you have any skill with a disc - you should not bogey a single hole.

#4 - the basket at the time of this review has been pulled. It appears that there is a planter construction project going on, so I don't know how this will affect things in the long run. #4 was a total ace run, and probably the easiest hole on the course when the basket was in, so an new pin location would probably be an upgrade anyway.

The signage is super basic and the tee box is natural - aka grass and dirt. The back area starting at #5 can also be mucky and gross and hold water for a while. Player be warned.

WORST HOLE/S: #4

Other Thoughts:

This is the type of course you are looking for if you are:

1. A Beginner
2. Getting back into the sport
3. Have smaller kids & family DG
4. Teaching someone new the game

It's not revolutionary by any means, and you literally have Texas Army trail two minutes down the road if you are looking to hone your skills or are an intermediate to advanced player. Again, this is the course you squeeze in 30 minutes before the sun sets right after a long day of work. Enough to satisfy the itch, but don't expect much more than that.

With #4 out of the ground 1.5 discs. However, I will give it 2.0 discs with the assumption that #4 will go back in the ground after construction is over. So, 2.0 discs - but barely.

Surprisingly challenging and decent 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 10, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

If someone were to tell you of a new nine hole course that was built at a church, almost certainly your expectations would be fairly low. I know mine were when I learned of a new course at St. John Lutheran in Cypress especially having previous knowledge of the lack of space on the church property. However, this course is solid, fairly tough and makes great use of the limited space!

All but two holes have obstacles, which are two and four, with two being a decently long hole where getting a two doesn't happen all the time. All of the other holes need some sort of shot shaping whether that be a hyzer on one, four or nine, or a flex shot to avoid landing in the road on three.

The course flow is fairly simple. Each hole has a small tee sign with the distance listed, and all of the holes are straight forward enough that you really don't need a detailed hole map on the sign. The baskets are brand new MVP baskets with a red band, which pop. MVP baskets are very underrated IMO.

Cons:

Though I do like hole three, it can be potentially be problematic as you have to cross a church driveway and an errant hyzer could put you in the parking lot and at risk of hitting a car if present.

The church also has a gaga ball pit and a small baseball diamond that if in use, could potentially disrupt play on holes one and two. Technically fairways seven and eight cross, however, with the lack of use this course gets, it probably doesn't really matter/

Other Thoughts:

Like I said, I came into this course with fairly low expectations, and they were exceeded. The course doesn't have anything super special, but also doesn't have any glaring weaknesses to sag the rating down.
