Missing baskets 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 10, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Proximity to lake winni
Baskets are in good shape
Free course

Cons:

Missing baskets on 13/14 leading to some wandering
Directions aren't very clear
Grass is very long

Other Thoughts:

Decent course if you just want to go out and throw around with some friends. If it was maintained better and two baskets are replaced it could be solid.

A good course that could be great. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 31, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Sunshine is an 18 hole course on 11 baskets in a quiet, isolated town near Squam Lake. Most tees have signage that includes distance, a map, and par information. Navigating the course is pretty easy for a first timer too. Signage points to most tees and walking paths between tees are well maintained. The fairways here are really well defined and the woods play is fair but challenging. As long as you stay on the fairway, unruly foliage is probably not too much of a problem here. Some tees have benches. There is some nice use of elevation here. The course flows well, looping back to the parking area about three times during the round if you want to cut it short. The variety of shots is well balanced and comprehensive, and distances range from 142 - 600 feet. There are a few ace runs here, and one or two true par 4s that require two well-placed shots for birdie. Still challenging, but the woods play here is much more forgiving than other courses I've played. There's a port-a-potty at the parking area that seems to be cleaned somewhat regularly. No charge to play, beautiful property, not crowded, and a fun 18 hole round.

Cons:

Baskets are old and only have one layer of chains. I didn't have any unjust spit-outs, but the quality of baskets here is severely lacking. Many tee pads have awkward footing due to rocks and roots, including the tee for hole 14, the longest hole on the course. There are no trash cans in the park so pack in/out. If you land in the rough, it's going to be very tough finding your disc. I'm also not a huge fan of courses that use the same baskets for different tees. Some walks between holes are awkward and could send you in the path of another groups drive if the course is experiencing heavy play. Parking is also somewhat limited here.

Other Thoughts:

This course would be an easy 3.5 if the baskets were upgraded and the tees were improved. And with 18 unique baskets, it would be a solid 4. A few lacking basics but an otherwise solid course all around. A really fun course to play that could just use a few upgrades to be a really excellent course.

Solid for what it is! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 29, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Beautifully cut course through NH woods with all kind of room/choices in your throw to try and avoid the trees that remain.

-A range of distances in the shots and elevations. The shortest is about 140 ft (16) with one that is near 600 ft (14).

-For a course set in a small NH town off the beaten path this is a nice course to go to. Beautiful setting.

-They now have metal chain baskets on all holes, though they are not all the same brand on a couple of them. Upgrade from the temp baskets reported earlier.

Cons:

-Some additional signage would help on a few tees (not huge deal but took a few minutes to figure a couple out).

-Some tees share baskets. Again didn't reduce our enjoyment a single bit but just want to be fair in my review.

-In April (NH mud season was a bit muddy in spots)

Other Thoughts:

Kudos to those who cut this course. Despite shared baskets and dirt tees, this is a very fun course to play that is rather open for going through a NH forest. Beautiful setting.

Was a Beautiful course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 5, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very pretty, good lanes on most holes. Lots of trees to keep it challenging. Signage very good on first 9 holes. Little bridges to cross the creeks. Very good tee signs on front 9. Lots of benches to stop and enjoy the scenery.

Cons:

Needs better signs past hole 9. Missing baskets 13 and 14

fairways turning into rough.

Other Thoughts:

2019 update: missing baskets on 13 and 14. Some fairways not mowed. Declining maintenance is spoiling this course.

Hidden gem 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 23, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautifully maintained / Perfect amount of trees / Diverse holes / Lots of open areas / Plenty of opportunities for aces, while also providing challenging par 4s / Clear signage / Green, mostly flat fairways / Benches at every tee / Quiet

Cons:

Portable and mismatched baskets / Middle of nowhere / Some tees and baskets used for other holes as well / Limited space on some tee pads

Other Thoughts:

Bottom line: This course was a exactly what I was looking for. Despite only playing the front 9 (tight on time), we came away all saying it was one of the most beautiful courses we've played. Will absolutely return to play the whole 18 very very soon.

Everyday Sunshine! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 28, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Large lanes through sizable White Pine over mainly flat terrain.Hole length is moderate for a comfortable pace of play.

Cons:

Cloth baskets are not made for smashing chains from afar. Lack of T-Pads make consistant drives challenging.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a diamond in the rough. Having played with many of the small army of volunteers that care for this public course. I recognize the possitve attitude and love of this sport. This course has the potencial to evolve into the best DG corse in the lakes region and the White Mountains. If you are in the area check this place out.
