Good introduction to Wisconsin DG

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Beautiful and challenging course set in Superior, Wisconsin.

- elevation changes and good variety of shots required, on both the sport and long tees.

- Easy to navigate

- not a lot of course traffic for the time of day/season

- there were portable bathrooms at the parking lot, but I'm not sure if there were any along the course.

Cons:

- I remember the gravel road leading to the course being bumpy. lol

- in all seriousness, I'd say bring your bug repellents, etc. We found a considerable amount of ticks and mosquitoes on the course, (mid spring for what it's worth). And I'm low key terrified of ticks. They give me the heebee geebees.

Other Thoughts:

Please forgive, my review is not very thorough … it is off of memory alone, and the memory, a Memorial Day weekend trip to Duluth, two years old, is becoming faded.

However, this course will not disappoint. This was my first course played in Wisconsin, and it plays up to what I believe Wisconsin disc golf to be.

I remember remarking (to my friends) how beautiful the course was. Hole 4 or 5? I think, a long tee shot over a narrow wooded tunnel/valley of (birch trees?) stunning.

We hope to return again one day and see more WI courses as well.

True Northwood Discin'

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 20, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

- The scenery. Tall trees, wildlife roaming around, and the sounds of nature. All make for a truly memorable round. I really love this part of Wisconsin and being able to throw discs in the woods up here was an added bonus to the course itself being well designed.

- Good mix of shots throughout the course. Some require you to be able to throw dead straight for 300+ feet and some are true left/right moving holes. You definitely will be using a lot of different discs in your bag to make par if you're throwing from the longs or birdies if you're playing from the shorts.

- Some pretty nice elevation changes which is always a nice change from your average flat open course.

- Teepads are now grippy cement ones with the hole number painted on them just in case you're like me and forget what hole you're on every 10 minutes.

- Two teepads per hole. One for shorts one for longs. Both have good, fair lines from what I could recall. The longs definitely give more of a challenge especially on hole 5 the "valley" hole.

- Lots of parking space which is good in case of a tournament. Also a porta-potty in the parking lot which is always nice.

Cons:

- Signs were nice but they could've at least put a picture of the hole instead of an image of a map of the entire course on every single sign.

- I don't recall there being any benches but they would definitely be nice as the course does have some elevation changes.

- Like wolfhaley mentioned, the rough can be pretty bad peak summertime although, I believe the people who maintain the course are doing an active job at beating it back. I came out of my round with all my discs but definitely had to spend a good 5+ minutes looking for a few errant shots getting off the fairway.

Other Thoughts:

This course is still fairly new and I feel like it could be up there with its neighbor White Cedar at Mont du Lac. Something about this part of the north that just makes throwing discs a magical experience. This area has some really good courses and Superior Municipal Forest is a good addition since the recent loss of Vision Quest across the border. The future of North Woods disc golf is looking great.
